I know that people have done this with the 2007 FJ Cruisers that came with a 2 piece Key FOB. But I haven't seen or heard of anyone doing it on a Tacoma. I know how to program a new Key Fob. What I am wondering is if I can setup / use a FJ/Landcruiser Banjo Key Fob 59468d1342125418-diy-2007-fj-key-fob-swa_aed2ec7e966520f205ce9c578bf7521429cf74e6.jpgon my Taco?

FJ Fob's aren't cheap but I hate having both a fob and a key on my already oversized keyring.

Don't know if that would work...What about the chip that is in the key. Without the chip, the truck won't start. At least that's what I've been reading...

I too hate having a key and a fob seperately. I don't know of any other car maker around that does this anymore, it is very annoying and like you clutters up my already overburdened keychain.

The chip is usually a small pellet or something similar that operates the transponder. It would be fairly simple to relocate it from a Tacoma key into a land cruiser key housing as the both have transponder systems. The fj does not have one in all cases so I don't know how well that would work out.

Camry's and other Toyota's also have similar remote integrated keys that seem to be cheaper than the linked FJ one. Most I've seen on ebay are going for $40-$50.

Had one of these on my SAAB, and I was surprised when I got my Taco that it came with a detached fob. The integrated fob/key is the way to go... if anyone figures out a way to do this cheaply let us know, I'm interested.

I think there was a thread on this awhile back and someone said it wasn't possible. I'd love to get an integrated key. You would think it'd be cheaper for Toyota to just make one damn style key.

Yeah, I would want an integrated fob in a key as well! Hope someone will come up with something.

Nope!! Buddy has a 2012 Tundra and has the same exact key and fob as the Tacoma!! The first key posted is also the same key that comes with Lexus vehicles so you should be able to search lexus keys on ebay and find them too!! I did this with my Honda Accord back in the day, I used a switchblade style key from the newer Acura TL. Was a straight swap. Just took it to the dealership and had it cut and they programed it for me for like 10 bucks!!!

Those big keys suck with the integrated fob. Too big for my pocket, I dont carry a purse.

The main reason is men pocket their keys and the separated setup is not as long. It aids in not poking your shaft.

I had another toyota with the integrated key and ended up just using the valet key since it was smaller.

Thanks for the tip. I'll see what I can find on eBay.

I was at the dealer just now and asked the parts counter person if its possible to do this and he said NO, if it didn't come from factory, they won't do it? Anybody else have a better answer, I'd really love to do this
