Impressive mod, truely (not being sarcastic).

(Just saying, there are easier ways to get 2 wheel low, which i agree is pretty cool, not that you did the mod for 2 wheel low)

    Nice work.

Can we get a picture of that driveway?

Since you have an FJ case you had 2low without twin sticks. Just shift into 4Low but don’t actuate the front diff and you’re in 2Low. No twin stick necessary.

Well I locked the front diff because I haven’t figured out the computers yet. So the front is locked it. I’m probably going to keep it that way and just trick the computer into thinking it is in 2hi so my dash stops flashing like an airport runway.

I haven’t modded the center console yet because I’m waiting on a taco box which will shift my levers back so I don’t want to ruin the console yet

Also the driveway is just really steep and gravel. The 35s are hard to spin with a manual trans

Just for your info, pretty sure to jump the ADD wires so truck thinks it is in 2wheel drive always:
5 ohm across pins 1 and 2 (recommend power resistor in case power gets inadvertently applied to the actuator)
Jump Pin 3 and 5 to Ground (pin 4)
Don't hold me to this 100%, because it has been months since I have messed with it, but pretty sure.
Pin numbers are at the 6 pin connector at the ADD. Can also do this at the 8 pin connector near the ADD, or at the ECU (different pin #s at these locations)

First I should mention that I assume you have to do similar for the transfer case actuator, otherwise it will cause all the same failure lights. I wasnt sure if you left the transfer actuator just hanging...

Anytime locker has been worked extensively, but never actually tested/implemented. See
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/rear-diff-lock-anytime-mod-3rd-gen-development.537810/

I dont super care about the anytime lock mod, so I haven't built a plug and play module for testing yet. That mod was intended to manually send voltage to the diff lock and cause it to lock. You can build one if you want, similar to the schematic in the dev thread, and I can help if that is the route you want to go. This would not be my suggestion.

I think you need to take a different approach from anytimelock. Instead call this anytime fake 4lo. This idea would be possibly just slightly more effort to activate in the cabin, but would keep Atrac or MTS/CC.

If it were I, i would leave the ECU in control of the rear diff. I would electrically replace both the ADD and transfer actuator each with a resistor and a multi-pole relay. Add a new switch to the dash, (or more difficult and add this to the existing dash control, but doable).

New switch, when operated, makes truck think you are in 4Lo. Here would be the sequence. Driving truck doing whatever you want, 2Lo, 4Hi, etc. You want either ATrac/MTS or rear lock. Stop moving, Throw your added switch into 4Lo mode, then turn dial to 4Lo. Truck will instantly think you are in 4lo and will allow rear locker, ATrac/MTS/CC. Use as you wish. Auto tranny will be in 4Lo shift pattern.

When done with 4lo, turn off your added switch and turn dial to 2hi on dash. Truck will instantly accept that you are in 2hi.

That is actually electrically easier than wiring up anytime diff lock, and keeps added functionality of atrac/mts/cc.

I can help you with a schematic for this if you want to try. (I already did almost exactly this on the front ADD as part of 2wheel low mod). Just have to do it on the transfer actuator. Bet we can come up with a schematic for it in an hour or two. The only thing I dont know to do this method right now is resistance of the transfer case actuator motor to fake out the ECU. (It might be in the repair manual, or just bust out ohmmeter)

Well I got here from here

Did you finish this and/or get further along? Any finishing pics or info?

A couple months ago I was reading this and just curious.

    Very involved courageous modification.

Wow, this makes me miss the simplicity of my 93 pathy mt. A lockright lunchbox locker in the rear and Warn premuim hubs up front and 2wLo and pretty capable.....250k rusted & welded frame called it's number.

@tacotacochaquito ...Did marlin crawler have any options??

Can anyone confirm the spline count on the input shaft? All my research shows 23 spline but I’m trying to confirm for sure before I drop money on an Atlas t-case.

This is a screenshot from Marlin crawlers 2016 6 speed M/T build. He shows the 3RD gen Tacoma 6 speed M/T has a 19 spline input shaft and the auto 6 speed has a 23 spline input. So he swapped the input gears from an auto 23 spline into his 6 speed M/T(replacing his factory 19 spline input), so he can run his Marlin dual cases in his 3rd Gen Tacoma. Below is a link to his build, he has done some pretty badass work for is 3rd gen owners. Hope this helps!

What an incredible business model and marketing machine. Selling mid sized under engineered and overpriced trucks to the U.S. posers and mass market who think they can climb mountains with these trucks.
