    What's not clear in anyone's directions (or at least it wasn't to me) was the small new spring goes inside the old spring and both of them get installed together.

    Do the shifters actually bounce out of gear if you don’t do this?

    There's some chatter when adding twin sticks and clearancing the shift rails for them that there could be increased chance of shifters popping out of position, so the stiffer detent springs add some peace of mind. I have no experience without the stiffer springs, though, since I added them when the transfer case was out and easy to work on.

    Yes, I would literally pop out of Hi gear into neutral while driving with the stock springs. Stiffer springs eliminated the problem, that was 3 years and 35k miles ago and no issues since
