Bump, because I’ve been checking in on the FJ Cruiser cyclone air filter onto Tacoma threads for years. One of us has got to try, and post pics! And part numbers. It would be very cool if it could be done with all Toyota OEM parts. Last night I was revisiting threads about it on here, and on IH8mud. Then searched around on pricing. The FJ cyclone unit is about $145 on a bunch of dealer parts sites.

I just opened my 2015 Tacoma hood to re-look and the stock air tube from the fender to the air filter box is one piece, including the two 90 degree bends to get to the air filter box. So if that FJ cyclone is one piece, then we’d have to figure out the two 90 degree bends section to get to the air box. The stock Tacoma air tube has offset mounting arms that go to the fender that look very similar to the FJ cyclones, but I don’t have a cyclone to check if it’s the same.

A couple posts above by @asgardengineering is interesting about the 2005-2015 Hilux cyclone pre filer with part number 177300P010. Google images has some schematic showing it, with some air tube parts and clamps. It looks like that cyclone has a 90 degree built in. The FJ cyclone part number, and pics look like it’s built straight, no bends.

This next thing take with a grain of salt… I just asked chat GPT about the FJ Cruiser cyclone fitting on a 2nd gen Tacoma:

“ OEM Cyclonic Pre-Filter Part Numbers
    • 17730-31030: This is the official Toyota part number for the cyclonic pre-filter assembly used in various Toyota models, including the FJ Cruiser in certain markets.
    • 17730-31031: This is an alternate part number for the same pre-filter assembly.

These part numbers correspond to the cyclonic pre-filter assembly designed for Toyota vehicles.

    Compatibility and Installation

This pre-filter was typically offered as part of an optional off-road package in markets like Australia, the Middle East, and parts of Asia. It was not available in the U.S. market. Installation on U.S. models may require additional components or modifications, such as a snorkel kit or adapter, to ensure proper fitment and functionality.”

One other possible drawback is location of that finger pinch dust tube cleanout on the bottom of the cyclone. In my Tacoma the windshield washer tank is directly ahead of the air tube mounting area. And behind the air tube mounting area is a black box thing. It might be that emissions control pump thing that helps burn off gas vapors when you shut the truck off, that sounds like a mini turbo for a second. So if a cyclone fit on a 2nd gen Tacoma, it might be hard to reach the finger pinch dust tube.

Long post, just my thoughts. I still think it would be a cool little mod.

    Just the basics
    Good thread revival.
I had a friend who got the cyclone to work in his 4th gen 4runner. There's got to he a way to make it work on the Tacoma.

I'm planning on doing this mod this summer. I'll respond back with what I find

From what I've gathered so far, I'd have to swap everything on the Taco all the way back to the air filter cover since the hose would be shorter. I'm hoping I can find a wrecked FJ somewhere and yank the air filter system out of it to help cut costs on the project.

I think this would be the entire assembly if purchased directly from fleabay. Let me know your thoughts guys
