Your good bro, pull your case and it’ll have the same thing, although maybe a bit longer. All it is, is a spline coupler, it’s what links your tranny output to tcase input.

    .. holy death bump..

The only tcase to get is a automatic TRANSMISSION tcase from a FJ, or out of a trail (maybe sr5 too?) edition t4r. Manual tranny tcases won’t work without super hard electricity wizardry.. which defeats the purpose.

The extra headache comes in if YOUR truck is a 6 speed (RA160F - 22 spline), spline count on tcase input shaft is different than auto/5 speed (A750F/R155F - 23 spline)

Does anyone have a part supplier for the 21 spline Input shaft that is in the Tacoma originally, that needs to go into the FJ T-case?

I'd like to do that without removing my Input shaft from my Taco's T-case and just leave it together, for several reasons.

I just went through this same thing.. I bought another 6spd taco case to use for the swap. If you are interested I'll split my extra case and pull the input shaft out of mine that has 73k on it and sell you it for the price I paid for my extra case plus shipping. You could have the whole case but shipping to FL from TX would be cost prohibitive. I paid 200 for the case I bought. If you want to pay that and shipping I'll pull it apart for free and figure out how to ship it to you.

Thank you @BassAckwards Let me think about that for a little bit.... i'm 50/50 if it is worth the extra ($200 + shipping) to do this vs. just pulling the one I have now.....

This was going to be my suggestion. Theres about 20 parts that make up the planetary gear set and I promise you it will be more expensive to build that input with new parts from Toyota then buy a used case and swap parts, or just pull your case and do the swap.

Looking back, having an extra case made things way easier, and low stress. I was actually able to enjoy doing the swap vs worrying about screwing something up lol. Totally worth the extra money if it's your daily driver!

From what I remember reading so far, all i'm pulling from my Taco T-case is the actual 22 spline input shaft.... now that i'm typing that, i'm remembering also the front cover plate too.... What else?

No need to swap covers if you're doing a crawl box, you will need to swap them if you're just doing the FJ swap as theres and o-ring that seals to the tacoma transmission.

If your taco case has the speed sensor on the back, versus speed sensors in the brakes, you'll need to swap that too. Depending on whether your manual vf21a case came from an FJ or 4 runner, you may have to also swap the worm gear on the rear output.

The RST blog mentioned taking the flush ring gear from the FJ gear set and putting in the on the taco gear set before putting it back together.

"But there is also one other important step you'll need to take or your new fj case wont shift properly...... Put the flush ring from the FJ Cruiser t case onto the gearset from the six speed Tacoma gearset."

The above is quoted from the blog. I didnt see anyone else doing or mentioning this? Has anyone had any issues?

I just ran into this issue and was looking on this thread and couldn't find anything about it. The flush ring gear from the fj case needs to be swapped on to the 22 spline input gear that will go into your new case. If you were to keep the shallow ring gear from the electronic case you loose the ability to shift into neutral and end up with 2 low range shift points. The first being partial gear engagement to low range (where neutral should be) and the 2nd shift point full engagement to low range.

This is what the shallow ring gear looks like PXL_20210711_165719201.jpg

Here is the flush ring gear installed. The arrow points to the snap ring that needs to be taken out to remove the ring gear.

Why can I not find the correct front-bearing retainer seal? The options Toyota gives do not cover the holes on the stub where the o-ring is. Any ideas people? It just causes a leak of fluid at the pin hole.
