Quick question. I might buy some fj wheels for a steal. I am going to run 285s on my 2001. What is the backspace on these? Will I have any problems rubbing? I'm on my phone right now but tomorrow I can get some pictures. They aren't the trail teams, just the standard fj wheels. Thanks!

They widen the stance of the Tacoma out by an inch on each side and look awesome! $1200 though? I made replicas and bought the OEM center caps all for a little over $800 (minus the tires of course). Hope this helps.

If they are actually TT wheels and not replica powdercoated wheels then yes, they are worth the money.

I just don't see the point in paying another $500 just to say you have original TT wheels and not be driving an FJ.

It only is valuable in the eyes of the owner, anyway. When it comes right down to it the value is lost not on the fact that they are limited edition TT wheels but there are very few examples of automotive collectibles that come from asian auto manufacturers. This may evolve thirty to fifty years from now but who knows.

Me either. I would have never paid that much for mine. I got a deal (5 for $650 +$85 for new powder coating).

    Andy

The rims look awesome. I'm trying to get (or make) a set of trd rims. Just trying to calculate how much it will cost and all the work required... shipping to Hawaii is a killer.

Do the tacoma tpms sensors work in the fj rims?
Stock tacoma trd off road tires fit? 265 70 16
Does the installation of the fj rims require any mods?

I actually want the anthracite rims. Those also require an fj cruiser trd VIN to order right?

    Thanks

Thanks! I have really enjoyed them and had plenty of compliments on them. To answer your questions... No vin is needed for the anthracite trd wheels, that is what mine were. Go to eBay and check out frank motors (they are great and have been good to many of us taco owners). The TPMS sensors worked flawlessly, no mods were needed for the wheel, they bolt right up and widen the stance of the taco due to less backspacing, and I fit 265/75/16 BFG ATs on mine. Hope this helps, good luck.

Any recommendations on the type of black powder coat that best matches the trail teams center caps? Most shops around here only have one type of matte black with a slight shine. The black doesn't really match the cap.

I dropped off a center cap with the wheels and told them to match as well as they could. Mine have a little shine (not 100%) flat but they are flat enough to match the center cap.

I had the same problem with mine so I re-did the center caps to match the new powder coating. Turns out that Krylon satin black matched perfectly. Painting the TRDs was relatively easy too.

Michelin 265/75/16 MS2's, Grillcraft MX series/TOYOTA badging. FJ/SE TRD Anthracite gray wheels. Katzkin leather/heated seats.
I like P/C it lasts, rattle can paint does not stand up as well. They look good.

FJ TRD Anthracite gray and staying that way:).........$484.00 no tax, set of four from Toyota of Richardson, Tx parts dept. Delievered to my door in 5 days.

On a good day at the best powder coater in charlotte, nc you should not pay more than 100-120.00 per wheel to powder coat and thats with a clear coat added to protect the original powder coating color. So you have two runs through the powdercoating oven.

I recently had two motorcycle wheels done for $80 ea in metallic silver, here in Charlotte, and they turned out perfect. If you gonna powder coat anything shop around and work a deal.

$850.00  wow! that is super high for 4 wheels. I'm just sayin...

Ok, finally got the rims to the powder coating shop. $90 a wheel.

From what people are saying, the center bore needs to be grinded down if it is powder coated for the rim to fit. Should I have the shop tape off the center bore with high temp take to make mounting easier? I'm not sure if costco or firestone has the equipment to grind the center bore and don't want to run into any hold ups.

Andy did you leave your center bore bare metal after grinding or did you touch up with some engine/brake caliper paint?

    Thanks for the quick replies.

Can you guys post your fj rims and tires? I created a thread called "show off your fj trd rims and tires." I have to buy new tires when the wheels get out of the shop and want to see what tires compliment the rims.

My shop grinded the centerbore and I left it without paint, pretty tight tolerances there. Hope this helps.

Custom powder coated matte black fj trd rims. TRD black center cap. The color doesn't match perfectly, but its good enough for me. I had powder coaters put some high heat tape along the center bore to ensure a smooth install. Sensors fit no problem.

Threw on some Michelin LTX AT2 tires, 265/70/16. Tires doesn't look as aggressive as I'd like but ride really well and very grippy even in the wet. Big improvement over stock.

    **Correction
After alignment and a 5 more pounds of air, ltx at2s are very quiet, smooth and noticeably less rolling resistance than rugged trails. In all fairness, I got the vehicle with 24000 miles on the stock rugged trails when I bought it.

AT2s look more aggressive at an angle. Stance of the vehicle seems slightly wider. Tires go very little past the fenders.

Thanks Andy for all the help!!!

Bringing this thread back for a little help. Im thinking of ordering the silver ones and having them powder coated. So i should get the center caps first, and try to have them match it the best they can? and if anyone can point me in the right direction of the center caps, id really appreciate it..

any chance this is it: http://usatoyotaparts.com/index.php?i=2&type=parts&partnum=accept

It looks like it should be those, i just want to make sure they are the black, which i could do by calling em..

Also, what about lugs? Do i need new ones, or will some come with the wheels? What if i wanted black?

    Appreciate any help fellas.

edit: one more thing, the bs on the 2010, silver trd ones should be the same as the anthracite/tt editions right?

    http://www.trdsparks.com/displayparts.php?Mdl_dtl=716&Part_cat=16&parts_id=1057

This site claims its 4.75 and not 4.5??

Do i need the kit that toyota offers to be able use these?

Sorry for the insane amount of questions, i just want new wheels and something always seems to ruin my plans..
