Fl Hunting Thread

Took my oldest back to MS for a week to try out his new 410 and take on some deer hunts. I think he has caught the bug as now he is asking about any places to hunt squirrel/rabbit, etc. We did land a decent doe and I am headed back to the MS Delta in a few weeks to catch up on some bucks.

 

Been a fairly productive season for us. My dad got a 14 point, bro-in-law got a 13 point, his son got a nice sized doe and I got a smaller doe. The weather however lately has been really screwy and deer sightings have been down. I also haven't seen the first hog this year which is pretty unbelievable. Other than that, I've also killed a bobcat, racoon, and one squirrel. Cooking the squirrel this week and trying that for the first time

 

I’m not trying to steal spots lol, but were the 13 and 14 killed in Fl? I’d love to see pics either way lol. I’ll be in the woods this weekend some, I have to move a few cameras and such. The lease is going to start logging so I’ll have to find new areas to set up- fun lol.

 

North Florida in Jefferson County. We are on some private land that borders the Georgia state line. It's very well managed so there are constantly good bucks taken each year (not a high fence, I promise lol)

How close do you have to be for 410 to be an ethical cartridge? First time I've heard of using 410 on deer.

 

If we had slugs or buck shot I would only go up to 50 yards. My boy is 6 so this is more of an introductory gun for him to go rabbit/squirrel hunting with and sitting with dad buck hunting.

I should of specified that I landed the doe with my 7mag and the 410 was practice rounds to get used to handling the gun.

 

@allenfab - quality bucks! I saw some leases come up for Jefferson County and typically see a lot of highway action driving through. If they have any openings come up might be interested.

Nice buck! I love it up in that part of Florida. We actually looked at 2 leases and some property for sale this past weekend in Madison County. Hoping to hop on another piece of land for next season
