I have a flag mount I drilled into the inside of my tailgate. I've seen people do it to their toolbox, how would I go about drilling it into my toolbox?

I would think it would be cleaner to weld on a tube to the side of the box. As to avoid allowing water to enter in.

I'm a little concerned with your request. I would think it's a simple drill some holes here and mount. You shouldn't need advice for this really.

Am I wrong? Are there some other special circumstances you have? Get us some pics of where you wan't to put the mount and point out any obstacles.

The spacing. The top of my box sticks out further then the bottom

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
Shims under the mounting points. Or a single shim plate.

Or be uber cool and french it into the lid (complete with drain) and up-light with an LED spot flush in the lid.

pretty much what he said. hmmm. what is there that you can use. some kind of stock material that sticks out further than the cover. wood is an easy solution though not very reliable over time. some autoparts stores sell hollow square welding bars that might be perfect. like this from lowes. you know, stuff like that. and you can always get like a bicycle tube, cut it into strips and use that as a sort of gasketing material so water doesn't get into the holes.

just go buy 4 copper couplings size 3/8" and use them as spacers, it will give you a "stand off" of roughly 1/2" and wont rust or dry out over time.

you can also simply use two spacers on top and none on bottom or bend the flag mount leaning backwards at about a 30 degree angle so it clears the lid. this is a much better look and keeps the flag "open" most of the time and is les likely to get wrapped up around the pole.
