charocal filter delete/kn intake, rear cat delete. horn mod, 20% tint front windows, bull bar, M1 Full Syn, black plasti dip emblems. Next up aero turbine 2525xl muffler
Are there flappers in the 1grfe intake manifold? If yes who has deleted them? Pic is for demonstration only. Please advise. Thanks

your pic is so damn small

either way yes there are flappers.... they are there for a variable length intake. no point to remove them as they provide more low end power n torque.

More for emissions bs or supposedly torque/hp? I'll check with Toyota mechanics. I just can't help to think the power gain from having them always open

They open up at higher rpms. They stay closed at lower rpms to keep intake air velocity up.

The flaps are part of the ACIS system (Acoustic control induction system).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acoustic_Control_Induction_System.
How many intake ports does the 1-GR have? is it 1 or 2
Trying to figure out if the engine needs help with pulling air in or exhausting it out.
The problem with modifying the engine is you might make it worse by adding or deleting systems.

Do you have info when those flappers open/close?

I had a VW GTI with flapppers. As said above, they're there to simulate a variable intake runner length, which helps deliver more power depending on variables like RPM and engine load. Not emissions related at all (not that you should remove emissions related equipment).

image.jpg I'll check tomorrow but my thinking is just unplug the vac line and they would default to be open. I'll try tomorrow and see how she runs

Why exactly are you trying to disable something that Toyota engineers spent a long time working on to give you better power across the entire RPM band?

You will lose power, or torque. Depending on which way you have it locked out. Promise.

    Ask me how I know.

The flap changes states around 3600-4000 rpms. Without looking at my data. I cannot remember exactly where.

With only 37 posts, I doubt the OP knows how deep you have dove into these motors!

When I was young and foolish I, too, thought I knew more than Toyota engineers who spend their whole lives studying intake design. I bypassed the T-VIS on my MR2 thinking larger intake means more power. Boy was I wrong. That thing ran like crap with the system disabled. Fortunately I was able to easily reverse it and continue driving with how the engine was originally designed.

I was young once too (I think, IIRC)--I'd love to be able to tell you that in those years I had never "been there and done that"...
