I picked up a surefire knockoff for 30 bucks. it's by far the brightest flashlight I've ever seen. Its 75 lumens! the brightest one I could find at the time, bad thing is that the battery life is only rated at 60 mins...haha
But it works great for spotlighting.

Who said anything about a beat down? Why would I wanna make the kids get out of the back seat or move the baby's car seat to grab a light to help out at an accident? Or look around a trail at night? Now, I use the spot behind that seat for my 2mil CP spot light, but then I rarely use that so it's no big deal.

Oh, and as many times as I grab the light at home or a buddy's house it would be stupid to open the back door, fold seat down and grab the light (maybe move a car seat too) when I can just open the driver's side door and grab it.

    edit:
Maybe you missed the part where I said "if you use the back seat".

Meaning, if someone's sitting there, then they need to get out of the truck so you can fold the seat to grab the light. That's stupid for me to do since I have 3 kids I don't want running around at night while trying to get a light. Not when I can have it within arm's reach on the driver seat.

I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.
Oh! I thought when you looked at it you thought I just left the seat down all the time. I was trying to clarify the fact that I close it. Silly internet making assumptions easy to make. Anyways, for quick action I have my AA led mag mounted with similar clips to the top of my center console lid.

However I have to fabricate mounts for my new Fenix P3D coming in :) By far brightest I've seen in the price range.

nah.. I used to use the factory flashlight holder until I realized it rattled, and was a pain in the ass once a car seat and booster seat were buckled in place. Even without the kids I had to move stuff to fold the seat down. And being as lazy as I am I much prefer to just reach down and grab the light on the way out of the truck.

I have an LED flashlight in my console that fits in a block of foam I've trimmed. It's the kind that winds up s oyou never worry about the batteries... not too bad, not as powerful as a mag light, but all I need it to be able to see that screw / bolt at night or that path through the woods....

i have a couple mini mags and a 3cell d mag light that I use for work. it takes a beating and keeps working. i have an led "miners" light for my hard hat that works well. I haven't seen any led flashlights that light up as well as my mag yet though. it doesnt throw light far enough imo. maybe they are better now.

I love the LED kit for the D and C cell mags. :D To me, they are as bright as the standard bulbs and don't have that annoying dark spot in the center (the one you have to focus to minimize). The cool part is it STAYS bright. It doesn't fade like the standard bulbs do as the batteries fade. Mine seemed to eat batteries every couple of months or so. Or basically whenever I went to use it, it needed batteries. So I stopped using it and it collected dust for about 8 years or so. I've since had the same batteries in for 2 years, use it more than I ever did, and it's still as bright as when they were new! :D Or at least I don't notice a difference. Certainly not the old "watch it fade out" effect I used to get with bulbs.

All that for $18 10 years ago for the light and $20 for the LED.

Okay, here are my test subjects. I didn't get each one I had, couldn't seem to find them all. (memo: ask wife where flashlights are.)

    Top to bottom:
    1. LED keychain light. Watch battery. These are found at Brookstone.
    2. Maglite. 2 AA. Found everywhere.
    3. 9 LED Husky. 3 AAA. Found at the Depot. Currently, 5 for 19.97.
    4. Surefire 6P. 2 lithium batteries. Equipped with high output bulb. Found at Surefire.com, although I did see these at Lowes on Sunday.
    5. 6 watt LED Craftsman. 6 AAA. Found at Sears.

Light test. 15' away from the garage door, flashlight held waist high.

All in all, for the 19.99 I paid yesterday for the Craftsman seems like a pretty good deal.

    ^Thanks! That's a great comparison!

Nice how the Surfire has a larger focused beam than all the rest while the craftsman has smaller focus, but larger spread. Probably better if you want to light up a larger area to see more yet have a small bright spot for working on things, or investigating something. Probably lasts longer too. heh Those Surfires seem to suck down the batteries from the run times I've seen. I prefer something I know is going to come on and not need a charge or new batteries to work. That's the main reason I stopped using my mag years ago. Batteries always too weak to be useful unless they were brand new.

I got my Fenix TK11 the other day. Its by far the brightest light I own. I compared it to a buddies SureFire with the 100+ Lumen bulb, and the Fenix blew it away. I read some independant tests on the TK11 and they put the lumen rateing at 225. ANd it has a 2.7 hour runtime on the rechargable 18650 batteries. :)
