Flashing light means it's not engaged. Try again.
    From 2wd to 4Hi under 60MPH
To get 4Lo you must already be in 4HI and under 2MPH
If it doesn't work move a little & try again (one reason I always engage 4wd as soon as I hit the dirt)
    Manual or Auto?
Instructions on card on visor & in manual.

Usually the 4wd symble only flashes when you're transitioning from 4wd to 2wd. A constant flashing may indicate a porblem with the 4wd system. I would contact your local Toyota dealer or check you're owner's manual for further information

It flashes when switching into or out of 4wd or 4Hi to 4Lo. If it stays flashing it didn't switch.
I have never had a problem getting it out of 4wd.
A couple of times it didn't go into 4wd on the first try. I moved a little and it engaged.
