Because misfire is detected indirectly through crankshaft velocity, the detection isn't always accurate. Cyl 1 misfire can trip a cyl 2 code, etc. Good scan tools typically have a histogram misfire counter that can be used to help locate the actual cylinder. Generically, compression loss could even be caused by a head gasket leak across neighboring cylinders (known issue with the 3.5L V6 in 1st gen Honda Ridgelines, for example).

I did notice this morning on first start up the engine ran a little rough for a few seconds but then smoothed out. It ran great driving down the road after that. The light came in yesterday after fuelling up makes me wonder if something is happening with the system fuel.

We have a winner! Mice chewed a wiring harness, and it is an out of pocket expense...$720. While they have my truck, they will also take care of the fuel pump recall.

I set a few traps in the garage this afternoon, hoping to catch the culprit(s).

Thanks to all for chiming in with opinions and advice!

Insurance will cover it, if you wanted to make a claim and your deductible is cheap enough. Guessing they nested right under the engine cover to keep warm and ate the coil wires. Little bastards

The autozone read out was correct. #2 and #4 plugs were bad. Also cleaned the Mass Airflow Sensor because well why not. :)

Same happened to me this week, in fact truck is still in the shop. Parked for 2 weeks while away on a business trip.
My dealer quoted $1500 to repair, or $6000 to replace.

    Insurance is dealing with it.

The most epic reply to a CEL I've ever read. Thanks for this. Every man that has a set of nuts needs to understand WTF is happening when the "check engine light" comes on and how to read and understand what it is.

These generic code readers, and the systems used by the brick and mortar stores will only point you in the general direction. It gives you a idea of what is going on and you can make decisions from there. If your manual says do a tune up at 60,000, chances are if you get a P0301, P0306 at 78,456 miles, check the plugs right? LOL. I have never seen a motor fail after a tune up. I've seen plugs in rods out at the track at least 50 times tho...ahahhahaha.
    Thanks
    Zim
