Sams Club put 4 new tires and 5 new sensors on my o6 trd. No problem until I drive 50 miles at

70 mph. Then tpms light starts flashing. Turn off motor and restart no light until I drive 50 mi

at 70 mph. City or slow speeds turns off the light so I can't get to Sams with the light flashing.

Also the spare got low so the light turned solid. Aired it up did the reset button light turned off.

Still 50 at 70 the light flashs.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you.

I was told that the old ones were dead and had to be replaced.

They try to scan the sensors but without the light flashing their scanner won't tell them which unit or units is causing the problem.

Discount Tire told me to come back in and they can recalibrate them. If you add/subtract weight it’ll throw them off

    Ok.

    Back to Sams.

I had new tires put on by the dealer when they replaced the frame.

They said the sensors are ok.

They said it might be the computer????

    Ouch.

Put a piece of paper over the light.

    Very distracting on loooong trips.

    Thank you again.

Flashing TPMS light indicates that the truck can not connect to one of the sensors. This could be a bad sensor battery or the shops failure to connect it properly to your truck. I highly doubt it would be your trucks computer, if anything the sensors would be incompatible because the shop put the wrong ones in.

Solid TPMS light, as you found, indicates a low tire pressure.

The SET button is only for setting the tire pressure levels in the computer and nothing else. Correct procedure would be to set all tires at appropriate levels, perform the TPMS SET procedure, and then never touch it again (at least for the life of the tires).

I’m not sure what to make of the 50mi at 70mph thing. So it doesn’t flash when you start the truck?

I recently had all 5 of my TPMS replaced, everything looked good until the next day when the light started flashing on startup. Figured something had gone wrong with the shop connecting it so I took it back. One of the TPMS had decided to disconnect for whatever reason. The only thing the shop had to do was reconfigure it.

I don't think Sam's even plugs their TPMS tool in the OBD2 port which is required on our trucks. Ask them and demand they do the job correctly. Go up the ladder if needed.

Mine started flashing the other day when it was below freezing for the first time since last year. So I checked all the tires and they were all 32psi like I normally set them. It happened again today. So I start driving, it's near freezing, no TPMS light, continue driving for about 15-20 minutes and it starts flashing for 2-3 minutes and then stays lit until I turn the truck off. Been like this for a few days now. It's weird because I can understand the tire pressure dropping when it gets cold but for it to only come on after driving for a bit? Seems counter intuitive as I would think the tires would warm up after driving for a bit and the light would, if anything, go off after being on for a while after first startup in the cold.

So the light seems to be one almost all the time now. I checked tire pressure cold and they are all good at 32psi. Even tried hitting the reset button. Guessing one or more of my sensors is bad or dead battery. Almost 11 years old now. So I will be going with the electrical tape method until about 12 months from now when I replace tires. No sense in spending on mount and balance just for the sensors replacement.

I just put four snow tires on my truck with separate stock rims, and the light goes out like normal after it starts. Am I just a lucky guy?

Where are the sensors located that are programmed to the truck?

    Solid= low pressure.
Blinking then solid= dead sensor or truck can't connect to sensor.

Good point. They are close by. I'll see how it goes at a distance.

When you get about 20 minutes away from the sensors, the light will come on.

That doesn’t mean that’s the range of the sensors. That means, that’s how long it takes the truck to realize there’s no sensors around. Kind of like when your cell phone drops a call and you keep talking.

So now, the spare is throwing a code. It's a stock tpms vs. 4 new ones . Can I just put a regular valve stem in it and reset it without the 5th sensor?

Your '06 must have 5 sensors. People have tried unsuccessfully to program out the 5th sensor.

If their tool is like most (like a bartech) theyll input the vehicle info and then scan all 4 sensors.. plug the tool in to the obdii port, if you’re one of the lucky ones to have 5 sensors the tool will prompt them to scan the spare. Then the tool is plugged back into the the vehicle and the sensor ids are written to the vehicle. Doesn’t matter if your tire light is on or not... Seems to me whomever programmed them probably didn’t know how to do it.

Also the drive 50 miles at 70mph is correct on some vehicles that automatically detect the new sensor.. just not ours.. I think Honda was one of the ones to do this.

I finally had them just put a new sensor in the spare. I have 5 new Dill Redi-sensors. The maddening blinking light is gone. I guess I cant bitch too much if an original sensor lasted this long.
