No closeups yet, I'll likely pull it off later this summer and actually paint the whole thing then weld in some beefy gussets. I'll be adding a low wrap around hoop as well. Truck is in the shop getting a big'ol tuneup before I do my cross province pilgrimage to the farm for the summer. Gears, plugs, wires, dist.cap, fuel filter the whole shebang. Also before I go I'll be picking up the OEM toyota mini header for the 3RZ and slapping on a K&N apollo cold air, later on this summer I'll complete the exhaust with some 2.5" cat back exhaust and with magnaflow muffler and hi-flow cat. Gonna get sum'power from da bitch!!!

Lol only way to get more power is to SC or turbo it.

Opening up the exhaust that much is gonna actually make you loose low end power..but you'll gain..MAYBE 10hp above 3k..

    just a thought..

    what gears are you getting?

Heading down range to 4.56 from my stock 3.58's. I think the power will be fine, plus I'm doing more highway than anything. At present in 5th gear the rpm's are a little under 2000rpm at 100km/h with my 33's(they should be about 22-2500rpm @ 100kph), when it comes to any hill there's nothing left; therefore I decided on 4.56's due to the fact that it's a stock gear ratio for Toyota and it's a happy medium between $.88's and 4.10's. The mini header is stock on the 2001+ 3rz's, really it's only a replacement for the old cast manifold that cracks all the time, and I'm 99% sure mine is cracked due to the ticking and high pitched whistle when I really rev it up. I'm not expecting massive power gains, what I'm hoping for is increased throttle response, a nice sound and a little more pulling power on the highway, other than that whatever more I gain is a bonus. A buddy of mine is running the same exhaust setup in his tacoma with a 3rz (2.5" cat back, magnaflow muffler etc) and the thing sounds just super nice, so I made the final decision when I heard it on the trails to go with that setup regardless of power gain, however it may come. I'll be tickled pink if I get an extra 10hp.

Sounds pretty good! Every little bit helps when you're adding more weight.

    Where ya headed?

Put in my K&N Apollo CAI. The day I started I ran out of time and made a last minute attachment to the MAS with plexi-glass and PVC pipe which didn't seal and kind of hung off. Today I ran out to a metal place near my place and bough a stainless elbow and reducer and plate and made the attachment piece. Later on I'll modify it so it runs right from the snorkel I'm eventually putting on my truck. SO! There it is. I have definitely noticed better throttle response which I'm thrilled about, it no longer hesitates at 2500rpm, now I just have to replace the cracked manifold I have and the exhaust and I'll be set.

So I'd say it's been a while since I've last posted, just about too long. It's busy season for myself as my wife and I head to the farm to...well, farm. A slow internet connection and very little time doesn't allow for an adequate opportunity to keep up the thread. Ironically I'm making this post from Whitehorse, YT, CA about approx 2000km's from home. We're on our way up to Deadhorse, AK and have stopped in with some friends who have a decent internet connection.

I have been busy building...here's what I've been up to.

All the junk that's gone into my truck as of the beginning of the month.

Work starting on my tire swing out.

    Mounted my borrowed winch.

    New exhaust!

    Painting the completed swing out.

    Mudflaps!

Out with the old and in with the new!

Wired in a 1500w inverter and my bluesea fuse box into my new optima red top.

Lined the doors and back wall of my cab with dynamat. Pretty good stuff for your stereo, not the ultimate answer for sound deadening but it does make your interior a little quieter.

I would seriously get a new latch! That's scary man. Ill be amazed if it holds a tire while offroading.

Hahaha, the latch is slightly temporary, actually due to a slight design flaw in the bumper the swing out fits quite snug and doesn't move. You're in Deadhorse right now?!?!?! Why don't we meet up? I can't tell you exactly when we'll be there, but it'll be within the next five days or so.
