I’m a machinist by trade but like to dabble in other stuff. Bought a hobbyist welder for this project. Best part about a large welding project, the further you get the better you get at welding.

Got some upgrades while the bed was off.

added a back rack, glad I bought extra material. This was some off the cuff shit.

Had to fab up a real one that would take some impact.

Needed a hitch, although I have to rewire the lights if I want trailer lights.

Dude! Love it! My old 5 lugger had a pretty ugly bed, and I planned to do the same but aluminum. Being a architectural fabricator by trade, it was always tough to get motivated to start the project especially since I was using my truck regularly for work, so i never got around to it the project before I needed a 4 door. Subbed and excited to see what you come up with.

Ya I definitely picked the wrong time to do this. Material is so expensive right now, it cost me more than double what i had quoted 7 months ago. I had no choice really. Drove to Maine with a set of wheels and tires in the back and I drove home with 1 bolt holding the bed on.

Looks good, and you have a solid frame and leafs to support it.

Hey do you have a material list or could you specify thickness of the metal?
don't know much about fabricating but have the needed tools sorry if I sound a bit dense.

    looks to me like 2x3
    1x3
    and either 1.24x1.25 or 1.5x1.5

my box is shot and I should probably be looking for a new truck but its not in the cards for another year or 2 so I have welded some patches and supports in various areas on the frame pretty solid now but needs a flat deck I really like yours after searching the web

I know it’s 4 years late but I just built a flatbed for my ‘04, but wiring the lights has proved to be actually a pain. Just got some LED trailer lights and wired them in but the right side is dim and somehow connected to the reverse light. Double triple checked the wires but they’re hooked up right. Any ideas?
