    Sure, go for it.

I've always thought it was lame that Toyota never offered these trucks with a true long bed (7-8ft), when they already made the cabs and frames, just didn't offer them in the right confuguration. They could have done a regular cab long bed on the dcsb/access cab frame, or an access cab long bed on the dclb frame.

I had one too, I think it was an 84. Dark blue solid axles, it was beat to hell, but I have fond memories of that truck in high school. I would make a fire in the back yard and waft a fleece blanket in the smoke. Then fold up the blanket under the seat and when girls got in they would say" it smells like a campfire in here". I would say yeah...we went camping the other night, next time we go, you should go too. That sealed the deal a few times.

Stretch it. Looks weird with the short bed. More room more better

I like the idea of the access cab, regular cab swap to give you the additional space for the longer bed. :welder::sawzall:

Yeah I have a lot of friends say do it. I will be honest the only reason I want to do it is because I will have a truck that no one else on the planet has

    Pros
    I can actually haul lumber
I can make a much bigger canvas top frame for camping
I can haul much bigger cargo, ie my 10 foot flatbottom (that's a type of boat, not my girlfriend)
Theoretically it will be more stable at speed
    Wind will effect me less
I can put a second fuel tank where the spare tire goes, and mount the spare tire on bed behind cab
I can have 24 inch underbody boxes on both sides for recovery gear and tools.
Plenty of room to install a 2 gallon on board air tank.
Girls are probably gonna show me their boobies when I drive by

    Cons..
    It's costs money
Time spent working on the truck could be time spent eating bacon
Everyone else is going to want one

DO IT! It would be awesome. I've a thing for long bed regular cab trucks
Too bad they don't offer the Tacoma in such configuration. Here in Switzerland we have the Hilux in regular cab long bed and cab-chassis, but only in a work truck/basic trim. Still like it better than the double cabs.

Sadly...I don't think it will happen. Tomorrow we are taking my flatbed off and putting it on the new owners truck, and I will be building a new 7 ft flatbed. The whole frame swap thing is a very expensive way to go for just getting 1 foot more bed space, I still want to do it. But I have a bum knee, no second vehicle to drive, I just don't think right now is the right time. Summer project. But I will take pictures of the swap tomorrow. I will be going to get metal for the new bed on Monday. I found a place close by (50 miles) that will bend my head bar, sand blast, and powder coat the bed for me.

Having trouble finding underbody boxes. Either gonna have to get some custom made, or make some myself.

Headed to the bank to pick up my $1500 check for the bed, then headed to my shop to make measurements to order metal for the new bed. I also ordered a set of HD treads, but wondering if yall have any opinions on where to mount the them? I was thinking one long bolt that goes through spare tire and TREDS at the same time, all sandwiched together.

Ok just a quick update. Ordered my metal for the new bed. It is being delivered to tomorrow, two different guys came by the shop today. They both want powder coated beds. I quoted them $1800 with lights installed for a dovetail. I found a place local for ip67 rated led lights. I highly doubt I will ever sell a bed that doesn't have led lights. Anyway, I will post pics when I start welding.

    SO MANY QUESTIONS:
    • How much? :D
    • Are you renouncing your citizenship or can you go to Australia pretty easy?
    • Did I say how much for the truck yet?
    • What will you be doing in Australia?
    • Where are you landing in AU?
