Just finished building my rear Flatland 4x4 bumper. I also made a swingout for it. I researched before i bought the CAD drawings and haven’t seen anyone who’s build one on here. So figured i would post it up if anyone is Interested in building one. The bumper was super easy to fit up and weld. I would recommend waterjetting the parts, rather than a plasma table. There are quite a few holes that will
be cut out and the waterjet does a much nicer job. Overall i’m pretty happy with it!

Very Nice, maybe a little off topic but what set up did you use to weld up your project.

used an old snap on welder. it is a miller systematic made for snap on. it welds really good for what it is, and had no problem with the 1/4” plate. I am also a welder/fabricator for a living so that helps. I don’t know how people use a 110v flux cored welder for these bumper builds. imo that’s dangerous because it is NOT strong. Especially not for a tire carrier

I hear you, have a Hobart 210 for lighter fun stuff and Miller Multimatic 220 for the more advanced. I enjoy both machines, welding is purely recreational and have been doing it for years.
    Keep your wire clean...

Now that is a Normal looking shop Is that a 300 or 500 in the back ground??

We tend to get spoiled with better equipment then the skill level plays in I would have no problem with a Miller or Lincoln 120VAC running self shielded wire welding (even hating self shielded wire)on a tire carrier.

The cheaper imported ones I have no desire to even try.

    It’s a syncrowave 300.
The self shielded wire is okay to a point, especially if you have a higher powered welder that can actually get hot. But most of the time if you have a competent machine, it will have a gas hookup, so why even use the self shielded wire? Tire carriers are under a lot of stress especially when bouncing on the highway and stuff. To each their own though!

I really like the look of that bumper! Where do you buy the cad drawings and it there any "breaking" involved of bending the steel or is it all just weld together?

They sell the files on their website flatland4x4.com for about $30. There is no braking involved, all pieces are welded together and then ground flush to make it look like that.

Myself I hate Self Shielded wire I tried it when it first hit the market they say it has gotten better since then.

I get so much Self Shielded wire coming off Power plant Outages in our feeders being all ready billed to the job they just leave it in.

I loved the dual shield Verti-Core back in the late seventies.

I will need to look for the truck when out that way.

Unless it lives at home but for the pure enjoyment of driving.
