I know this is an old thread but I’ll be replacing my flex plate soon. Do I need to get new bolts for it or do I need anything else other than the flex plate I bought at the junkyard today? Also the used one I have has some surface rust should I try to clean it? Do I not want any oil or grease on the flywheel?

How is the rear main engine oil seal ?
How is the front transmission pump seal.
Will you be draining the trans fluid ?

I was hoping not to but I’m not sure I haven’t found any good write ups yet. I think the rear main is good. I haven’t had any leaks or oil loss but I’m at 346k so maybe I should. I talked to a mechanic about it and he said if the seal is good. I may be opening a can of worms. My issue was I started it knowing the the starter was a failing. So when it finally did it came out in pieces I had a bunch of ball bearings come out of the inspection plate. I replaced the starter and tried cleaning up the inspection area blew it out with air. The new starter was working fine for a year until a few weeks ago it wouldnt start it got stuck and sounded like it did the when the starter went out. I pulled the starter of a another ball bearing came out with the starter but otherwise it looked fine. I replaced it anyway since it was under warranty. After I replaced it, it was still suck I turned the engine over manually 180 on the pulley and it started. It’s been starting since but I turned it and inspected the flexplate it’s a chewed up a little but it’s missing a couple teeth. And that’s why I’m replacing it. Thanks for any advice.
