That would actually be a great idea for push button start tacos too....the flip out could be the tailgate key. Where did you get it from?

I also ordered a flip key conversion kit for a Tundra. I will see if it works. I didn't see anything specifically available for the 16 tacoma though that matches the button layout on the stock remote.

Key arrived today. Looks like its going to work great. I put the guts from the original key in it and it worked fine. If I can find the time I will have the key cut tomorrow.

    Nice!
    Do the buttons work?
Did you move the chip over as well?
I would be interested to see if the key will start the car.
    Let us know!

Is the FCCID for your original key the same as the flip one? I think the FCCID for the tacoma is: HYQ12BDP

The FCCID is on the back of the key. Can you compare the back of the stock key with the flip key to see if the numbers match?

Nothing on the backside of new key. It does not come with a chip you have to use the chip from your key.

My wifes car has a flip key (2004 era). The thing is the size of a small hand-grenade. She had two...now only one left. It doesn't fare well when she drops her keys.

It's so bulky that we now have her car key by itself and she has a separate key ring for the house keys.

These are things to consider before transitioning to a flip key. Hopefully they are more rugged nowadays.
