Along the same topic (and not trying to hijack OP)...anyone know if THIS key could be rigged to work on a 2009?

It seems to have a place for it next to the spring housing. After all that my local hardware store cut my key blank wrong. Not giving up, I will just order another and take it to a lock smith this time.IMG_2241.jpg IMG_2242.jpg

I see a future mod to use the "trunk" button to open the tailgate.

I doubt that. That would require a separate transponder as well as actuator in the truck and another matching transponder chip in the remote

Getting close to complete on mine. Need to take the blank key to a locksmith today.

Note- I removed the truck icon from the flip key using prep/ grease remover spray.

How did you get that chip out without destroying the fob?

You might want to remove the Key Blank from the fob for the locksmith. I used a 1/6" drill bit to knock the roll pin out.

did you use a heat gun or a hairdryer to get the chip out. I just open mine and it looks like it glued in there pretty good.

One side was cut with it in the fob and one side removed. They guy was having a hard time keeping it straight in the vice with the key fob on it. It was after the first side was cut I thought about removing the blank but it was too late by then.

My flip key works perfectly. Starts the car, all the buttons work.
I used a dremel with a small cone shaped metal grinding tip and ground away the side of the plastic holding the transponder in place. Then I removed it and install it into the new flip key body.

I had a locksmith cut the key blade. He mentioned that Home Depot regularly screws these up...

yes, remove the key blade from the new flip key and take it and the original keys to a real locksmith... not home depot, not some local hardware store....
