I think once you get all the guts in the shell it will have a better feel. Also, adding a little foam to help keep the transponder in place gives the fob a bit more of a solid feel. Does feel a little cheap but as you use it, you don't really pay attention to its feel as it completely serves its purpose. Also, I would recommend giving the spring pre-load 1.5-2 turns to give the key a snappier feel when it flips out. I saw a video where the guy only pre-loaded a half turn and told viewers to simply loosen the screw to allow the key to flip out. This is wrong. The spring needs a good 1.5 to 2 turns so when the screw is fully secure, it will still flip out fine.

Good luck with the transponder extraction! Have patience and don't give up. The transponder is made out of a harder plastic so even though it's a bit more tough than the plastic of the key, you can still damage it if you don't give it some care while extracting.

I just did mine and the transponder is a pita. Take an xacto blade and heat it up. Used a dremel with cone sander. Took about 30 mins. IMG_20170818_124400.jpg

It sure is a pita to extract the transponder. I used a cone/ball metal cutting tool and that seemed to get the job done a little quicker. The nice thing is, with the transponder removed, you now can move it to another key with ease.

I will say this, after less than a year, the graphics on the flip key are fading. The key still works just fine and the flip action is still working to my satisfactory. A bit of a bummer that the graphics are so worn down, though. Get what you pay for and I think this is the best quality we will get for a while.

Yea they do! I had 6 different keys made there last year none of them worked! They told me they would cut new keys for me. I got my money back and went to a locksmith.

anybody having issues with the top plastic piece holding down the key/spring being loose? no matter how tight i tighten the screw, the plastic piece is loose. this causes the key to fold close without even touching the button.

Yes! I did. It's not the plastic being too loose. Or if it is, that's a separate issue. The issue you're having with the key flipping closed w/out pushing the button has to do with the extra plastic not being trimmed inside the housing where the key mechanism sits into. If you open it up and lay the key blade in place with the button in place (without the spring), you can see that when the key is in the open position, the button is not setting into the groove. A very quick file job will clean up the plastic on the housing and allow the button to set in. It's hard to describe with text but I think this best explains it. Don't file away too much otherwise your key will have extra play while in the open/lock position. Also, I would recommend giving the spring 1.5-2 full turns to give it enough power to fully open and lock. This alone won't fix your problem as the filing will be needed.

    Does this make sense?

Also, looks like you have the same truck as me! Sweet! Not too many of TRD Pro manuals on the road. I think it's somewhere around 25 (for each color) for 2017.

Did this with my wife's key. It's cool/fun at first but is way too bulky. May switch it back soon.
It also has deployed in my pocket many times unintentionally.

I still think it's much less bulky than the stock key. The stock key is simply made to make holes in your pocket/nuts.

Thanks for the new option. You stated that it’s of much better quality? I was able to buy a usb to ODB2 cable and this key. I’ll report back with my experience.

Nice. That’s the one I have. Has been holding up and way better than the stock key but definitely feels flimsy. Really happy that there are other options now that programming is an option to do at home.

My new remote. Could not believe the difference in weight between my SR5 remote/key and this.

This isn't a flip key, correct? Or is it? If it is, please give us details.

Yeah it has a key in it. I take the key out and leave the remote in my V with the engine running then lock my door with the key while I make quick stops in town.

Ah, sounds like you have a push start? That key is cool but wouldn't work well for us manual transmission guys that still have the key start system. M/T's all come with the conventional key start while auto's with the push-start. This thread is more about how us M/T guys can get a better solution than the stock fob that is the size of a lawn dart. Refer to some of the previous posts for picture comparisons.

Yeah I know. I had a SR5, 4 popper till last month. It is still sitting on the lot for sale. I traded for a 2018 Honda CR-V, EX and the above smart key is for it.
