This toggle drives me nuts! It's counter intuitive. Is there an easy way for me to rotate the toggle so volume is up and down, and track fwd/reverse is left to right? Looks like I might be able to rotate it 90 degrees since the sides are even. Any solutions? Is the steering wheel easy to take apart?

Up and down will move the track up or down in your list. Right seems natural for me for volume up. Just my two cents

    Walkthrough of controls removal:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2014-steering-wheel-control-install.362309/

Ignore the parts where he takes apart the steering column and removes the wheel. All you need to do is release the airbag like in the DIY, don’t even need to unplug, just set on top of the wheel, obsviously all this on your own risk and after battery has been disconnected.

You’ll then see like 4 Phillips screws holding controls on. Unscrew then unplug harness and pops off.

Smaller Phillips are on the steering control casing. You’ll have to fully dissasemble to see if you can flip the individual button.

Edit; does the volume button not control the vol or something? Flipping 90 degrees doesn’t make sense to me.

Also it’s imposisble to change the actual input locations. So that volume+ spot will still be volume+ regardless of how you orient the plastic button. The buttons just mash a soldered circuit board underneath. The circuit board has fixed inputs that can’t simply be moved unless you are really good with tiny electronics and soldering circuit boards.

First week I had the truck I was constantly changing the song when trying to turn up the volume.

I have since gotten used to it.

Maybe paint over the symbols. Get a wiring diagram. Cut a couple wires and re-solder them accordingly?

I agree. Really dumb of Toyota. Minor annoyance, but looking at it for 5 seconds should've made sense to them to switch them around.

This has been on my list as well. Volume to me should be up/down. Track forward or back should be left/right.

Switching this (somehow) is on my list, but way down my list at the moment.

Thought I was alone on this. Volume should be up/down, track left/right. Like an I pod.

Want worse? Buy a 2nd gen or 4runner.

Thanks for pointing this out, looking forward to see if anyone figures out how to swap/rotate the button.

The 2012-2013 controls were better imo. although I do like the volume button setup on the 4runner and 14-15 Tacoma’s.

I don't understand the issue.. left and right for a track only makes sense for CDs. I imagine that toyota expected most people to use thumb drives in which case up/down does make sense for navigating through file folders. Anyone?

If anything the volume left right is more annoying but easy to adjust too

I've been thinking of doing the same. I have an idea of using iDatalink Maestro to reprogram the buttons.

The volume bar does move left and right on the screen instead of up and down as well.

I don't see an issue with it either. Personal preference, to each his own.

I agree that it should be oriented the other way. A switch would be ideal.

So when you want to increase the volume, do you say "turn the volume right" or "turn the volume up"?

When you want to skip backward songs, do you "skip down" or "skip back"?

See what we mean? Makes more sense.

Take the steering wheel apart? Just use it for a couple of months. You'll get used to it and it won't bother you anymore. Worked for me.
