Well my buddy had a 1" shackle laying around that he never used on his Taco so we spent the morning throwing it in. Truck sits pretty good now, only problem is its tall and making me want 35's haha. Once I get my rear bumper on I think it should be looking perfect!

I already have an AAL, thanks for the offer though! This is just a temporary fix until I can afford a new leaf pack.

Hit me up if you need anything. I remember those same instructions when putting on my arb bumper. It took us most of the day and my buddy had put a few of those on.

So I've owned the truck for 3 weeks, looks so much better than when I picked it up. On a side note, if anyone in Central Oregon does welding, I was given a trail gear rear bumper and would like to add a swingout to it.

Well, I have a welder and can weld tho definitely not pro work. I welded my swingout on my bumper...... mine hasn't fallen off.

Man, this thing is the epitome of perfection. Been looking for the same to match my 99 green 4Runner.

Also, I had the URD SS on my 2nd Gen Tacoma back in the day and it was my favorite mod to that truck. Install was pretty straight forward. Worth it to me considering how many miles we drive a year and how much rowing we do. YMMV.

Where did you get the OEM steelies and what did they cost? Truck has a good look going.

Took the truck out this morning to test out the Dobinson struts, pretty impressed with them considering I'm on stock UCA's. Also the rear locker is so nice. This is the first locked truck I've ever had. Need sliders ASAP, taking the truck off road without them is scary.

Also picked up a rear bumper, it needs paint badly but I work for a powder coating shop so that isn't a big deal.

The trail-gear bumper isn't my favorite, but I think that once I get a swingout on it it should look pretty good. If anyone has a link to a reasonably priced 2X Jerry Can holder let me know!

There's a double can holder on FB market place $35. Pretty wide.
Army surplus store on 3rd at the train tracks has some singles for about $50.
I did mine. (I swear this is NOT a self promotional ploy. I just do a lot of my own stuff if I can).

BTW: I like how that bumper covers that area behind the wheels. Mine doesn't and I have a big dent there. That's another project when I get a tube bender.

This thread is probably gonna slow down for a while. After putting some miles on this thing the truck is pretty much exactly how I want it minus a leaf pack and different rear bumper. Aside from that I'm pretty much gonna focus on maintenance and using it as a truck. May retrofit a set of headlights and add a small subwoofer down the road, but its not something I need to do asap.

I found out that I HATE the trail gear rear bumper. I'm just not feeling the tube and while it says that it has a 2" receiver, none of my hitches will fit in it. I tow regularly so this is a pretty big issue for me, if anyone wants it for $225 let me know. I plan on throwing a coastal offroad rear bumper on.

Aside from that, it's starting to be nice out I picked up a new dirtbike (06' RM250: Lectron Carb, Excel Wheels, Ported Head etc...). It was the nicest, least clapped 250 2 stroke that I could find.

I'm a fan of the trail gear bumpers. But those costals look so nice. If I was going to use plate bumpers that would be the way to go. I think itll look better with you arb.

Trucks looking good keep it up.

I went fancy and got a marlin short shifter, it's nice what I like is I can make a lot faster shift if I do it right. it sits higher which is nice too but the throw is really about the same but the engagement is a lot better more positive.

Cooper, you going with the dual swingout for tire and cans?

Undecided at this point, I love the way it looks and it would be nice for camping, but I feel like it would be a pain in the ass opening both every time I need to get in the back of my truck.

dents and missing bits, built in the Gravel garage, hillbilly trained mechanic…
Nice looking rig, tough call on the swing out.

My (longer then previously thought) long term plan is to modify the 4x innovations: https://www.4xinnovations.com/1995-2004-Tacoma-Rear-Plate-Bumper_p_114.html bumper with some wrap around plate and a dual swing out, they have hinges available for the opposite side also. So I’m thinking that cutting the crossbar and fabbing an opposite mirror for a gas/water can, possibly even a small propane tank aft could work out to be pretty handy.

I think that a dual swing out will somewhat equalize the stress on the rear frame-(although I am planning on at least fish scaling the rear frame).

Then -dreaming now ordering a Drifter in a couple years. Just a few more tweaks.....
