Not sure if I booked a refundable trip but I'm thinking no. Maybe even if they aren't they will work with me in light of recent uncontrollable events. We really did like Maui and if we HAD to go back there it sure wouldn't be the end of the world. Just looking forward to a new adventure is all. That coupled with most people I talk to that have been to several of the islands tend to rank Kauai as #1 which had me intrigued. I'll have to see how it goes. Maybe we can come help with clean up efforts or something. Dunno.

I'm sure you will still have a great time on Kauai. Check out Salt pond beach on the west side. Poipu does lose sand every winter but it comes back for the most part. But there are some nice spots along there on the south shore too.

Kalapaki beach is a great place to hang by Lihue. Good restaurants there too, Dukes is a great place for dinner.

Kapaa town has cool shops a few good restaurants there too.

Wiamea canyon also on the west side is a great adventure for the day. It is sad all of the destruction and you I'm sure won't be able to get out to Hanalei in two weeks.

PM me if you have any questions about Kauai, been going 1 to 2 times a year for a long time.

The East side got hit good too but didn't have as much flood damage. A few roads washed out and parts of the main highway were closed during the storm. The east side should be okay but generally swimming isn't great on that side so be safe if you venture in. Lydgate park on the east side has a nice closed off swim area but it gets filled with debris after a big storm, so not sure how it will be this soon. South and West are usually drier and better swimming.
If things stay dry the sleeping giant trail on the east side is a fun outing but can get slippery after rain. Steep hike but great views at top!
Hukilau is a great restaurant there by the coconut mkt place. I gave ostrichsak a few options too if you read above.

27 inches of rain in 24 hours... Hanalei is devastated, not a peep in national news.

Yeah they had a total of 8 mud slides onto the main highway into Hanalei. Glad the Hawaii national guard showed up yesterday to help with evacuations.

And it’s a damn shame too. We need the exposure to help get these communities back together. But we know the Hawaiian Spirit will get these familiesthe help they need.

I’m on Kauai, the westside of the island and we didn’t have anything as near as the north shore kind of flooding! All I can say is wow! I could not have imagined that kind of damage from that storm! This second round that’s supposed to be coming thru tomorrow looks like will be hitting the westside hard this time! Stay safe Hawaii! Kauai Strong!!

Whoa, stay safe out there. I have co-workers out that way and so far, they're all checking in safe. And regarding the video, there's Bison on the island? Who knew.

When will you guys be there?

I have a trip booked for the first through the sixth of May. It'll be my first time in any of the Hawaiian islands (going to be on Kauai). I guess I'll try to call the place I booked which is on the east side and make sure they are still around.

Let us know how it goes, hopefully it weakened before hitting. I started this thread last night which is how i found this thread. I'd be more than happy to throw in extra "work" clothes into my bags and help with recovery if I was able to.
