what do yall think? trying to figure out the weak points, so criticism is welcome. hoping to start it tomorrow. gonna play around with the height and therfore angle of the tire before i fully weld anything. looks kind of empty in drawing form, but i'll have all of the stuff on my current rack on this one (hi lift, shovel, ax, cb antenna, fire extinguisher, and a jerry can or two). the idea is to also have the spare tire holder on pivots, so it can be swung out of the way for full bed access.
entire reason for this rack is storage. not only does it offer more mounting surface area on the rack itsself vs. what i have now, but it allows me to have full use of jason's old tool box (thanks again jason!)

thanks, i designed something similar with the slanted spare this summer, but didn't have time to build the entire thing so i morphed it into a roof rack only. you can sortof see where my roof rack came from in it

 

^Dude that is very cool. You'll need a ladder to get to stuff on the top!!! The only thing I am not crazy about is the tire obscuring your view out the back window. Not a big deal cause you really don't need a back window but, it is nice to see people (kids) walking behind your truck and stuff. Camera can cure that though. Anyway I wish I was that creative..Good job. Jelly Jellly Jelly!!!

 

Where are you going to put the fuel canisters Colin? Sketch the top down view!

 

I used to be worried about obscuring my view, but my current setup pretty much does that, so it won't be much of a change.

I haven't decided exactly where the fuel is going to go yet. Only requirement is it be no higher than where it is on my current rack. It'd be nice not to raise the COG too much.

yeah, it would suck if it was stationary like that. i just have to order some bushings and get some DOM tube to make the sleeves. thinking about just ordering an entire bushing and sleeve kit though. little more expensive, but much easier.

 

Colin why not build the bed cage.... then put the tire on a swing out from the rear bumper?
