    Yes, Ball drive is a huge part of the dog's willingness to hunt, retrieve, etc. It is one of the things we look for in a candidate. My dog still has huge amount of drive, he still thinks he is a puppy. The older seasoned dogs know where their bread and butter is. My buddies dog is 8. Still has huge amount of drive. It's instinct. But when it comes to food he doesn't play anymore. Probably when he was a pup, he would take the ball over food. Today....Food..
