It is not the law that you have to tell the officer that you have a gun in the car. But, as previously stated IT IS A GOOD IDEA!!! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. This is why..If the officer see the gun and thinks you are reaching for it he may start SHOOTING YOU! We don't know if you are a bad guy or good guy. In Jason's neighbor's case the gun fell out she was not and did not look like she was going for the gun. Tell the officer you have a gun and where it is. You may have to jump through a couple of hoops but it is better than being dead. PLease please please tell the cop. I have had people forget to tell me they have a gun in the car then I saw it and put my gun to their head and said don't move another muscle or you will be killed. Sometimes they turn out to be a law abiding citizen and I apologize and they understand. Sometimes they are not. WE DON"T KNOW.
When getting pulled over here's a good tip if you have a gun. Put your windows down and keep your hands on the steering wheel where they can see them. This is critical. If you do not the officer will tell you to do so. then tell the officer you have a ccw and where the gun is. It will make things go a lot smoother. please trust me on this.

    My rant of the day...

I really wish Ford engineers would take notes from Toyota. Ive got a 5 month old truck with a rusted drive shaft and rusted steering knuckles.

My tundra was 4 years old and had nothing rusted on the suspension or drivetrain.

Ford, chevy, doesn't matter they all begin to rust quickly. I worked for ford and nearly every single one i saw were rusted. And chevies are starting to see some rust. But then again chevy now has Aluminium DShafts not medal like ford still likes to carry. On most vehicles.

So as an officer, stopping me for a basic traffic violation, I tell you I have a loaded handgun mounted in my center console and I do not have a Florida CCP. My driver side window is down, truck is off and my hands are on the steering wheel with the keys in plain view on the passenger seat.

Would you pull me out of the car? Wait until you ran me? Etc...

    Just curious.

Possibly take you out of the car and detain you possibly. or just tell you to reach for it slowly with one hand on the wheel... Officer's discreation.
