Not sure why you are asking. But it's old enough that I am redoing the hardware for it and planning on making new legs for it. Otherwise it's in good shape.

Okay, since you're obviously wanting to get into the whole off-road thing, I gotta ask this:

Before you sink all this cash into your truck, why not sell it and get a 4WD Taco?

IMHO, that would give you an exponential increase in capability over and above anything you could do to your current truck and then once you start putting cash into mods, the pay off will be that much bigger. Just something to think about.

ya, I have thought about that, only thing is...I paid 14K for my taco, which wasnt a bad deal at all, it should have been 16K, but all the other 4WD 2nd gen tacos are anywhere between 22-28K which was waaaaay over my limit. So I thought about it, and its a bit expensive but I figured I could get it converted to a 4WD and still not have spent as much money, I do know how expensive it is to get it converted, its pretty pricey...as time goes on Im just thinkin on what I could do, either sell my taco and get a 4WD or get it converted

main issue with selling it, I need to get enough to pay my current loan off and then I need to get another one, but with the prices for a 4WD taco for even an 06 or 07, they are still fairly expensive, im just at a standstill right now with what I really want to do

Speaking of off roading. Took Kyle to my little spot in lake Mary and explored a bit this afternoon. Had some fun climbing as much as my 2wd could, which is more than most give these things credit for. And then going through some soft sugar sand almost got stuck until for once I tried out my low gear and tricked right on through.

Not sure why, when going through sugar sand, I never tried this before.

Worked like a charm. I honestly think I have been shorting myself more than I know.

Surprisingly that time I did and it plowed right through it. I usually try to stay off it so I don't bury. I think I was a bit more confident since I have the winch. I was scouting for trees as soon as I hit that spot though to make sure there was something close just in case.

Easy there, chief ;). I'm giving 2WDs enough credit to think they won't have a ton of problems at Richloam. It'll be challenging for them, but there's enough 4WDs there to extract them if need be. The 4WDs--mine anyway--might need to be rescued as well, so it's not like I think a 4WD is unstoppable...because, really, if you ain't gettin' stuck, you're not having enough fun.

All I'm saying is once you've taken a 2WD as far as it will go, a 4WD will still be going. Alfuh is talking about spending a few grand on giving his 2WD a little extra capability with a locker, LT suspension, etc. This would probably be great if he was high speed wheeling in the desert sand, but the type of wheeling around here does limit what a 2WD can do compared to a 4WD, especially in places like Hardrock or Richloam (two very different disciplines). 4WD is pretty much a prerequisite for serious mud or rock crawling.

Alfuh, I can't back it up with hardcore facts, but I find it very difficult to believe you could do a 4WD conversion for cheaper than the difference in cost between a 2WD truck and a 4WD truck. By the time you buy the axle, transmission, and transfer case, you've probably more than blown through that difference, and this is not counting the cost of the actual install and the incidental stuff you'll need (shifters/switches, wiring, getting a driveshaft made for the front, having the rear one shortened). Geez, just the labor alone is kinda daunting and gawd help ya if you're not doing it yourself, because then you'll probably end up with having almost the whole value of the truck again sunk into it.

I get what you're saying about the up-front cost being out of your price range, but unless you just have to have a DB 2nd gen, you can probably find a 1st gen xtra cab 4WD much more reasonably. I just bought mine back in May and including the what I paid for the truck, I've got about 10k or so in it as it sits now.

3" Toytec spacers, Bilstein 5100s in the back with add a leaf and overloads removed.
4wd conversions are much more difficult and pricey with second gens than with first gen trucks.
