There's too much flex on the tailgate mounts for an antenna of that size.

 

I put my long whip antenna in the bed and used a piece of rubber to hold it down to the tie down points by the tailgate. And used a tennis ball when it hit up against the cab it didn't scratch the paint.

 

Aren't 2nd Gen beds made out of composites? If that's the case, to mount it in the bed like that, he'd have to run a zero ground plane antenna set up. I'd have to look it up, but I'm not sure you can use a regular antenna with that.

I agree with Ckeene9, I don't think the tailgate type mount would support a 102" whip. Too heavy and too much leverage on the mount.

Best place to put it would probably be the ball mount on the right side of the bedside toward the front. I would say the left side would be better, but I think the fuel door would be in the way. However, if you didn't want to put holes in your sheetmetal, the left side of the rear bumper (if you could mount it to steel) would probably be good enough for wheelin'.

how thick of wires are you guys running with your LED light bars?

 

I just need to figure out where im going to put my CB inside. I could just screw the ball mount into the bid right? then route the coax cable to the mount

Dude y not something like this,,,,You can dick bump the moon with that silver thing you are still only pushin low watts out of the cb... that forty ft. thing would look good on a f- 150 but not a gen 2 taco..

 

ya ive been thinkin about it, Im just gonna go return the whip and get a firestik. I kinda realized that I dont really want to deal with all the troubles the whip will cause. Its a learnin process for me, Ill make dumb decisions, then realize it was stupid, im gonna go return the whip and get the smaller one

lol, you gotta realize im only 19. Im young, on my own, and make stupid decisions. Gotta let me make them to realize the stupidity of some things I hate atmitting it, makes me feel stupid, but its the truth lol.

Look at the Wilson 1000's if you don't mind drilling a big hole in your roof to mount. The output and reception are awesome with them.

 

Got my money back from RadioShack...and leaving I saw a Maroon '89 or '90 Chevy Blazer I think it was, had what it looked to be a 8 or 9in. lift with either 37 or 40 Super Swampers, didnt have my phone or camera on me >_<
