    I can find a straight axle easier and cheaper then a 85 runner

    Yeah I wasn't either but I think on the right truck (mine) it would look killer. Plus it's a good deal.

    Yeah, but can you buy that 86, a straight axle, the springs (I'm guessing leafs) hangers, brackets, driveshaft work, shocks, break lines, etc...for the price of an 85? Not to mention the amount of labor you'll have in it doing the SAS.

    Hey Mike, since I'm busting your chops...if yer gonna SAS something why not do your Taco? I got a NP205 divorced t-case that would be perfect for it. Wouldn't have to mess with the tranny at all. Just get had an intermediate shaft made, shorten the rear driveshaft, and fab a mount for the case. Everything else you'd have to do anyway for a typical SAS.

    Then you'd have the forum's second Prerunner 4WD, lol.

    Haha, well, it has been sitting in the shed for close to 15 years. It's pretty much a bomb-proof t-case, gear drive, no chain. Pity to let it just sit there, yeah?

    I'll eventually find a good home for it. :D

    edit: In fact, it'd look great in Dritymike's truck. :wink:

    lol im just kidding, so is the SAS a better option than the IFS setup? because if it doesnt need all those extra parts swapped, I may just go that route and do the SAS

    SAS is definitely a better option than IFS. It's a stronger axle and will take much more abuse. I'm pretty sure you can get more travel out of it if you do it right. I doubt you'll see many serious trail/rock crawling rigs with IFS, so that should tell you something.

    On the down side, doing an SAS is probably not something you'd really be able to deal with presently. First, you'd have to have a place to do it. Then you'd have to be prepared to have your truck out of action for a considerable period of time (ask GuyHuey--his runner was down for most of 2013 while he did his SAS). Then you'd have to have a welder, torch/plasma cutter, and some steel fab skills.

    Of course, I guess you could probably try to find a fab shop to do it, but my wallet is weeping for you just imagining what they would rape you for. :D
