Couple of the drivers I worked with called to make sure the "Old Man" made it home safely towing that big U-Haul and mentioned "pot hole" season has already reared its head;tires and front end parts are catching he!! ...

Toyota Tech 31, we will catch up.....I still need to "talk" about that Lexus work with you....Good reason to travel East..

 

Does anybody know off-hand what size bolt I need to jack the brake drums off? Don't have any metric stuff laying around so I'ma have ta go buy a couple and I'd rather get it right the first time.

Don't quote me on this but i think its a 10 x 1.25. I always grab any of Toyota's bolts that have a 12 km head.

 

See if you can spot your favorite K9 tahoe in this vid... Yeah had some good times last night Tahoe off to the body shop next oil change...lol

Hmm, so the lower ball joint to knuckle bolts might work? I have some of those I was keeping as spares since my new lower ball joints came with new ones.

edit: Nope, those didn't work and they were M10s. I think I might need M8s.

 

Did you bolt chase him down??

Ft.Myers had a similar yesterday morning;car rolling near downtown drive-by shooting,shut down Palm Beach Blvd. right near the post office....Delayed my day BUT luckily time was all anybody lost.....and they caught these "clowns" also....

 

Yeah man however when the car spun around my front bumper was in the drivers door so only one person bailed. These dudes just shot someone so I had to stay with the car and deal with the people in the car. Had to put poor Bolt up so no bite

 

Hey thanks man I try to be as safe as possible when working. I actually hate pursuits cause they are so dangerous. But, goes along with the territory.

 

Okay, here we go. I happened to find some M8 bolts, spares I had for my skid plates that got replaced with the diff drop, and got the drums off.

I've begun to suspect that my rear brakes aren't working, or if they are, they aren't doing much.

I don't have ABS (aside from my right foot), so there's no funky electronic junk involved.

Fact: The E-brake is just about useless. It'll barely hold the truck on an incline.

Fact: I have to step on the brake pedal hard to do even semi-moderate braking and when I do the front tires howl a little. (conclusion, they are doing almost all the braking)

Fact: The pedal feels firm.

Fact: Nothing appears to be leaking.

Fact: I bled the rear brakes not too long ago when I replaced the brake line with an extended one back in Sept. I did not bleed the proportioning valve, mainly because I didn't even know it had a bleeder until today.

Fact: I attempted to manually adjust the rear brakes today and it didn't seem to make any difference.

Fact: Everything inside the drums looks good. All the springs are on. The shoes should have plenty of meat on them. The parts all look nearly new (once I rinsed the light coating of mud off them ).

Fact: The friction surface of the drum wasn't rusty.

Fact: The E-brake was grabbing enough that I couldn't turn the tire by hand.

Fact: I do have a BPV extension bracket installed.

So, given that I can't see anything obvious wrong, why would my rear brakes not be doing their share of the braking? Even though the pedal feels firm and the line I replaced is down stream of it, should I try bleeding the proportioning valve? Could the proportioning valve not be working properly? If so, how can I ops check it?

Anyone got any ideas? Brakes aren't supposed to be this mystifying.

tried adding more powerful reverse lights to my wife's celica, and boom, now speedo doesn't work and CEL are on, brilliant linking vss with backup light

 

hey alfuh, I just saw this (was going back looking for brake line links) guess i miss some posts every once in a while, yea i actually might be, how much did you want for it, i'm gonna try to put everything together with my 1'' and if i need the extra push that might work out nice

 

haha no prob dude, I was thinkin since I bought the lift for $250 and ive put close to 6500-7000 miles on it, somewhere between $125 and $150 was what I was thinking, comes with the strut spacer up front and the 2" lift block and the N2.0 shocks in the rear. but its not coming off until early to mid march

 

yea i prob won't be putting anything together til even after that, but i'd only need the block
