I have no idea. Just to me it looks like it is somewhat secure. Not sure about this "spring steel". I am not a welder. Just seems semi secure and someone in there mentioned that they used to do it on older trucks, not sure the facts behind that statement. But for some reason I feel like giving that guy the benefit of the doubt I guess.

Then again, it's not my truck, so I could care less as long as he's not near me if it does go bad.

i am a welder and someone who just say "7018s are good enough" doesnt seem like they know what they are doing. you cant just weld any type of metal to another type of metal just because they are both steel.

So you guys know how I'm learning from Wes and constantly changing my mind? Well something dawned on me this morning that i know some of you will be like "well duh dumbass".

So of course i am still thinking a out my wheels and tires. So i figured, instead of buying wheels and spending at least $400 plus tires which would be an additional $750ish (treadwrights), i would just keep my 17's and put that extra money I'm saving towards buying brand name tires. Hello, am i a genius or what? I have way too many ideas running thru this head of mine to make sense of sometimes.

So that being said, what's everyone's opinions on tires i should be looking at? I want to keep with the mud tire, thinking maybe a nitto trail grapler?

Have you considered the Kumho Road Venture MT?





Yeah, they are directional, but judging by the large spaces between the tread blocks, they will clean better than MTRs or the Nittos. Had a set on my F250, but they weren't on the truck long enough before I sold it to really give an opinion on how well they performed. However, another memeber, Southern01taco, had a set on his 1st Gen so he might be able to give you an opinion. These are what i would have gone with if I decided not to shell out for my LTBs.

 

MTs are expensive but they seem to last longer than other brands. IIRC they has somewhere around 50-60k on them. I don't think my mtzs will get that much but probably close.
