Alright guys, need your opinion(s).

I'm going to a buddy's wedding in Gulf Shores, AL next week. I'm driving - that's already been decided given the price of flights.

Total trip will be between 950-1,050mi.

Driving my truck, total gas cost will be around $175-$200. IRS uses $.56/mi. to calculate cost of travel, including gas and wear-and-tear so using that, I'd be looking at around $550 in gas/wear-n-tear expense using my truck.

I can rent a car for around $190 for the entire trip, and then adding about $125 in gas on top of that, total cost of the trip is only around $315.

Given all of that, are you guys more inclined to take your trucks with you on road trips, irrespective of cost savings just because you like having your truck with you, all your crap is in it if you need it, etc. or would you be more inclined to rent the car, keep the miles off your truck and save a little coin?

Such a dilemma.

i've also heard that before, that it costs roughly $.50 to drive a mile considering all the maintenance and maybe insurance and whatnot. Personally, i think our trucks don't have that many repairs so i really feel like i don't spend that much, but haven't really calculated the cost, as far as the trip, if you in fact do rent a car, i think you'll have a good amount of savings on gas to offset some of the rental costs, but I like taking my truck places so i prefer not to rent a car. I probably didn't really give much advice but i would be willing to pay a little extra to drive my truck, and also, I don't even think 1,000 miles round trip is very much at all, about 2.5 tanks.... last time i drove to philly by myself, i drove my truck, i used to get better mpg then though

 

Nam, could have sworn I saw you on 75 just north of Apollo beach on my way south a bit ago. Guys truck was lifted, roof rack, and 20's. Then I realized the roof rack was black and as I was about to call you I realized there was no bull bar. The guy probably thought I was crazy, I dropped from 85 to like 50 to slow down to see.

That's why my spare is in the bed and will be going into my garage when I get home.

 

Next step buy huge drop hitch if planning on towing anything
