Ball joint spacers and lift blocks, am I doing it right?
So I called Ruff Stuff this morning because I had a few questions. First of all they were very helpful on the phone, I never felt rushed or that they didn't want to take the time to answer all of my questions. The two main points, do the housings come with knuckle balls and lead time. We'll lead time is right about a month, which is good. Unfortunately no knuckle balls, just bare housings. He went on to explain the process of fitting up stock balls to their housing and how difficult it is to get right. If it's hard for them in a fully equipped machine shop I could only imagine trying to do it at home, same goes for Diamond.

The more I weighed the pros and cons a fully fabricated housing from Diamond or Ruff Stuff really only makes sense if you go all out. Landcrusier 9.5 center, locker and Dana 60 outers. This would be the ultimate, Toyota hybrid axle. As strong as a Dana 60 and quite a bit lighter.

I think I've ruled out using another stock housing, too much work for something that ultimately is pretty weak. That leaves Trail-Gear again, I haven't fully researched their housing yet. At this point I'm not sure what route I'm going to take.

I do know I don't like having a broken 4Runner in the driveway though.

I was gonna mention regarding your last post if it would be way too much harder to just get kingpins as outers then if anything breaks you can rely on local parts stores maybe?

I'm looking into replacing my rear axle without ending up with a huge anchor such as a 14 bolt. Possibly a tundra 10.5 center with full float outers

Not sure, but if I went that route I would overbuild the shit out of the axle. Basically I'm stuck in the middle right now, It really doesn't make sense to buy a Diamond housing and stuff it with a 8 inch ring and pinion. But, a stock housing even armored up isn't going to live.

Sometimes I even get some air under the front end...

I get what you mean, its funny i get into that thinking and then boom im at overbuilt and tons of money. Pretty much I dont see any strength isues as long as you're full float, kingpin and at least 9.5" r&p

You have to be careful at ONF, some of the trails start fine and then get stupid tight. Just a warning.

Other mods-full synthetic, carbon filter, de-badged, center console lock.
Go to ONF with a good coat of wax, come home and buff and there is no such things as pinstripes. I took my truck at less than 1 yr old out there and my buddy thought i ruined the paint, 99% of it came off.

Calm your tits, he is technically correct. You can get ticketed for breaking traction.

Guy, you're going down an expensive road my friend. I think you should look for a Dana 44 that someone may be getting rid of. Your truck is light enough to run one and you can get them 6x5.5.
