What is the charcoal canister? I saw you talking about it the other day. Guess I haven't had to mess with it so don't know what it is.

Ya it's by the gas tank and has to do with emission stuff. I keep throwing 5 EVAP codes and Jason told me, along with other threads I read, that the exact same 5 codes does something with the charcoal canister

Ah shit happens. It's a chance we take wheeling these trucks since the intake is so dang low in the fender well. I don't think they will look at the rear for a alternator.

 

You do realize you did not "hydrolock" your motor. The word lock is in it for a reason. Means you put so much water, and since it can not compress, it damaged the motor to the point it locked it up. Don't get me wrong, you damn near did with all the water coming out of the cylinders, but now all you are dealing with is a shorted alternator due to crappy location from the factory. Which is much, much better than a hydrolocked motor.

 

They don't have to look at the rear. They will see all the stuff in the engine bay, then look at the rest of the truck. That will be the issue. Then they will likely make him pay for it because it is not a defect that caused the damage but water/mud that did.

 

Charcoal canister takes and cleans all the excess exhaust fumes before releasing them back into the atmosphere. Or when there's too much, the purge valve sucks those fumes back to the engine to be burned.

Thanks man! just got the call from the dealership and it is just the alternator. They are removing it and will take pictures of it and see if there is any mud in it. If there is then I will pay, if not they will cover it under warranty.
