Florida B.S. Thread

To be honest this place is kind of a shit hole, it has TREMENDOUS potential, its in such a pretty valley mountains on both sides, the colorado river running thru the town but the biggest problem is there is no 'industry' here thus there are no good jobs you work at a restaurant or walmart. Half the town lives here permanently the other half are migrants usually snow birds that leave when shit gets hot which is coming up here over the next three to four weeks when we will start staying in the 90's and going to the 100's. Of those that live here permanently the vast majority are poor and usually on some form of drug (meth is preferred). If this place had some sort of manufacturing or other company presence that weren't Casinos across the river in Nevada this place would have a solid shot of being a nice area. Almost every nurse or doctor I work with at the local hospital is outsourced from elsewhere within my own group, I'm from Atlanta, One flys back and forth to Chicago, the other drives in from Flagstaff, the other lives in Lake Havasu, and the other one lives in Las Vegas. Its kinda nuts. Those that live here full time are all foreign doctors. There are so many names I can't even pronounce its insane.

Hopefully Albuquerque will be better and a little more stable than this crazy ass place and then there's florida.....god how I miss having humidity!!! My poor poor skin!!!

 

Dude, totally go for it just do it for the right reasons. Do it because you want to become a provider not for the money. If you do it just for the money you'll be pissed it's a ton more BS that you have to deal with. Travel nursing now....I'll tell ya it's not terrible to be a traveler. But for me, I wouldn't want to be anything else other than an NP (I'm an ACNP/RNFA).

 

Nice it's been on my mind for a while. Being a regular travel Rn is ok but id rather be a provider. Feels like I could do much more with it

 

You can, if you feel so limited by being a RN and know that you can do more and want to do more then NP is totally the way to go. The next question is where do you want to live. Florida is presently the most restrictive state in the entire US for NP's to practice in. I mean they ONLY just passed a bill allowing us to prescribe controlled substances. It goes into effect 1/1/2017. Where Im at in AZ and soon to be NM, its entirely different. These are independent/full practice states. There really isn't anything that I can't do. The only catch is you have to have had training in it to do it which just makes sense but it's on the honor system out here. I don't have any physician involvement in my orders or diagnosis etc. Its all on me. Which now I love to death!!

 

No physician involvement?!?! That's my dream in life. If and when I go to school it will be in NC. Now do you have the MS or the Ph.D. Degree?

 

ZERO MD involvement. I am as independent here in Arizona as any physician. Several
Of the outpatient clinics I admit for in the hospital are NP run and owned. Now in the hospital to admit the hospital requires MD co-signature but I could open my own practice here. There are now 22 or 23 states that have independent or full scope of practice.

Now I'm gonna be straight up honest. You need to work with a MD for at least three if not four years before going all independent there's just so much to learn but after that it's all good. There are also NP residencies now which are awesome.

I have my MSN. I will go back for my DNP since I prefer clinical stuff as opposed to the PhD with research stuff.

 

Things happened earlier today

 

Does the cold weather/ icy and shit roads affect switching into 4x4 at speeds? About an hour ago I was doing about 20 and tried to switch in to 4 wheel drive and it made this terrible grinding/vibration. Like the noise when you grind gears on a manual transmission. Switched fine at a complete stop but at any speed it made the noise. Could it just be since it was so icy the front wheels weren't at the same speed as the rears so it was grinding the transfer case or the front wheels were locking up causing the noise?

Is anyone here running the TRD exhaust? If so, is it worth the money? Or is it better to just buy a muffler for a lot less.

I asked it the Wyoming tread haha. It's working fine this morning so I think it was just a bunch of ice built up where it wasn't supposed to be causing some issues.

 

I had one on my 2004 V6 and liked it. I've heard good and bad on here about the 2nd Gen's with them. Meaning some think it's to loud, and others say it's real close to factory. I had a Borla cat back on my 2009 and I liked it.
