Hello all, long time since I have been on the site. For the last three weeks I have been working on the Taco. Had a blown head gasket, First cylinder had a bad misfire and truck began blowing white smoke out the exhaust like seafoam would lol. Went ahead and did a compression test and cylinder 1 was 60psi while the other three were all right around 170 psi. So tore the engine down and got the head off, took it to the machine shop to get a valve job, turns out an exhaust valve(cylinder 1) was also bent/warpped could have been an result of blown head gasket or vice versa. Anyways, went ahead and got everything put back together and replace a couple other parts along the way, threw a new Doug Thorley header on, new water pump, replaced front crank seal. Been about three weeks but got it all back together and truck cranked up no problem and seems to be running well. Havent done much driving on it yet as I still need to get some exhaust hangers welded up. I have attached a couple pictures of the job, nothing really in order and no pics of the exhaust installed but, just pics I snapped along the way.

Does anyone know if the fj case will bolt to an A340F?

 

I thought it did, since people do the FJ tcase swap

 

from a quick search I did, looks like there is 2 different types of FJ cases, the automatic version and the 6 speed version, which youll want the auto version since the manual is I guess a 4wd all time setup and is bigger. I think it SHOULD just bolt right up from what im seeing to the Tacoma 4x4 tranny

I already have one, I'm just trying to see if it will fit behind the 4 speed.

 

What year A340F is it? If I recall correctly, I needed a Tacoma 23 spline case to bolt to my old tundra A340F

 

For the 4runner, it's an 04.

 

pretty sure the stock case on the 4runner is longer since it has a bigger actuator and a torsen ls inside it.

 

So I've stumbled on the 37s thread. It's making me want to go straight to 37s and skip 35s.

 

Your poor front ring gear, tie rods, and steering rack.

 

Don't think it would be much worse than 35s.

 

Ive wanted to but I already break shit on 35s

Quick Update: All parts have been in and they're finishing up this week. Shop said Friday or Saturday should have her back.
