So after getting called into the local mountains here in Wyoming to see if I could pull my old roommate back onto the road I realized I really really need a winch. Any suggestions for a good winch to drop into my SOS bumper? The jeep that pulled him out had a smittybilt 10k winch on the front which seemed to do a really good job. In the bottom pic you can see how we got him out.

Nice old retired guy and his daughters in his new supercharged custom wrangler with a winch, my taco to act as an anchor point for the jeep, and a new taco with traction pads to put under the Nissans wheels.

I'm sure most have had good luck with the smittybilt, or we'd hear more, but I didn't

Usually its the relay's that get over heated and stop working. Having a pair of snatch blocks works pretty good.

Ball joint spacers and lift blocks, am I doing it right?
I've had an XRC8 for 5 years. First thing I did was change the shit grease in it out for good synthetic and took apart the solenoid box and put dialectic grease on everything. Then I sealed it up.

    Works great till this day.

I've got a smittybilt 9.5 with maybe 5 pulls on it (all of them were pulling out my stuck lawn mower so super light recoveries) and the plug on the winch where the remote plugs into broke. One of the small pins broke off and there was quite a bit of corrosion in it, even with the rubber cover properly installed. Would have sucked if that stupid of a part failed when you really needed to use it.

No no no, I'm not talking about the t-case. I know that has been done a million times

I am talking about using the FJ axle tube from a 6 speed FJ to eliminate add and make full manual 4x4 system. You can toss the 4x4 computer
