During a conversation with Joey at Interco, he pointed out something else: a lighter tire will put less strain on the axles. Unfortunately, the 35x12.50 Boggers are 4lbs lighter than the 36x12.50 TSL-SXs. As it sits now, the Bogger 35s have weight, price, and less potential clearance issues. The only thing the 36 SXs have in their favor is that they would be more laterally stable in off camber situations and an extra .5" of ground clearance.

I don't know what it is about me, but the more advantages stack up in favor of the Boggers, the more I want the SXs. :frusty:

Sticky tires are usually super expensive and not all bias ply are sticky. Plus my radial Toyo tires went where you had to stop and lock it in 4wd to make :luvya:

I'm aware that not all bias plies are stickies. My Trxus tires on Natty that I said were soft enough to probably be stickies are radials. You can actually squeeze the tread blocks between you thumb and forefinger and they'll noticeably compress. Interco doesn't call them stickies...in fact, they have whole different listings for their tread patterns that come in 'competition' sticky compounds.

My preference for bias plies on the OGT is because bias plies have a much tougher sidewall and you can get a lot more tread wrap going up the sidewall than you can with radials. I'm willing to give up some ride comfort on the road for the benefits off road, especially since I drive the T4R around town normally.

As for that time you made it where I had to lock it in 4WD, it was purely a ground clearance issue and you were on 35s with 7" of lift while I was on 33s with 3" of lift. I don't think it mattered what type tires you were running there. I will point out once I put it in 4WD I crawled it without spinning a tire which most of the other 4WDs did not (at that time). Of course you can credit that with me being locked fore and aft at the time, but how about the time I effortlessly pulled Frank out of Billy's Hole while Wes didn't even budge him?

    0-1 in my favor, brother, 0-1. ;)

ProCoat in Tampa. One of our TW guys works there. They did a nice job on my new trans crossmember, although I haven't put it on the truck yet to say how durable it is.

The number of times I've done terminal damage to the sidewall of my bias plies vs the number of times you've ripped a hole in the sidewall of your radials... as per a discussion we had a while back on the subject.

Do you happen to know who it is? We have A LOT of customers come into our fab shop and ask about powder coating but never have a good suggestion on who to go to. If they're good, would love to send all those folks to a trustworthy company.

Be that as it may, the undeniable truth is bias ply sidewalls are just plain tougher than radials. Do you think it's a coincidence that the Rock Bouncers in the xRRS to a vehicle are ALL running Swampers, cut Swampers, or cut Boggers, with a couple running Agg tires on the rear, which could be Intercos too since they also make agg tires. Not that Interco is the only company making bias plies but the only guys you probably will see running them are the Ultra4 cars that come to the rock racing events, but even those are starting to show up with Swampers in order to be more competitive.

I'm not a rock racer and I don't have a bouncer, but my take away is that if the tires are tough enough for a bouncer rock racing, then I'm for sure not going to have any issues.

Nah just broke cv axles ever trip to citrus almost. You definitely earn that name under your user name. I tried to get the pro comp sticky tires but they will not sell them unless I race for them. Weird but how they roll

Huh, interesting. I know you already have your tires, but at least check out Interco. They have listings for competition stickies for both their bias ply and radial offerings.

I will say that I'm not a total Interco snob. I know their limitations. If I put even average yearly mileage on my trucks I'd put Toyo M/Ts on them.

As for me breaking those CV axles...I no longer have the Lincoln Locker up front so we'll see if that changes things. I don't expect I'll need 4WD ever again at Citrus after this upgrade...well except for some of the deeper water holes. As long as there's not a lot of scum floating on top of the water, I'd be willing to make another attempt at the center line on the corner of 15 and 20. Anyway, deleting the Lincoln Locker will probably take a lot of stress of the front end. Going to 35s or 36s will probably put a lot of it back, but I'm also now running '01 T4R LCAs with steering stops, so that should help me to not over extend the birfs when turning which will make them less likely to pop. I should also be able to take it easier on the throttle with the 4.88s. We'll just have to see what happens, although if it's not CV axles, I'm sure I'll have problems elsewhere. My alternator did act up last year, so who knows what the antique ol' girl has in store for me. :fingerscrossed:

Are bias sidewalls are arguably stronger than their radial counterpart... General consensus is yes.

We also cannot ignore the fact that a lot of these guys in the SRRS circuit are sponsored, so they probably get a lot of their parts (including tires) at a heavily discounted price. Are they the best tires for that type of wheeling? Probably. Are they still experiencing tire failures? Yes.

In the ~13 years I have been wheeling, that was the only tire failure I have had.... never even dropped a tire off the bead.... with 98% of the tires that I have had being radials. That failure came with an extremely hard hit to a buried concrete road barrier that had countless trucks constantly dragging over it and making it pretty sharp for concrete standards. I will put the house on the fact that it would have done the same damage to my LTB. I'll take my 1 tire failure every 13 years in return for a tire that is actually round and that rides good both on and off road with the same traction performance while off-road.

I will admit the LTBs rode like crap from day 1 when I put them on, but they are definitely the exception in my experience. I've had 31x13.5 TSL SXs that road perfectly smooth after they warmed up (on a 2WD Ranger then a 4WD YJ). I've had 38x12.50 TSLs that rode perfectly smooth after warming up (on a 4WD F150). I've had 35x16 Boggers that ran perfectly smooth after warming up (on a 4WD YJ) and I drove it from Clearwater and back every day on the interstate to A&P school until I got tired of fixing the Jeep every week. I've had 44x18.50 TSLs that rode smooth after warming up (on a 4WD death trap F100 with 3/4 ton axles).

The way you guys make it sound is like bias plies incapable of riding good on pavement regardless of if they are warmed up or not. With the LTBs, that did seem to be the case more than not, but I understand they are made out of a harder compound than Interco's other offerings. My experience with the other types was completely different.

Anyway, why am I getting a hard time because I said I preferred to run bias plies on the OGT and radials on Natty? Because someone was looking to start a debate and get more activity on the BS thread because they knew I would staunchly defend my position ad nauseum? LOL, well, here we are.
