Once I got it set up right, the blades on the cutter head in the right position and the rotating shaft not too tight and lubricated, the case trimmer did an amazing job and it was a lot easier than the way RCBS designed it to work, let alone manually. Go me!

I spent about three days total helping my step son try and break a axle nut on a 20 year old VW.I broke two 18” long x 1/2” drive breaker bars and a 2”x 1/2 drive adapter. I finally succeeded. I think I found a lil trick it took four things. 1 was a torch with map gas. 2 Was a can of air for key boards. 3 was a manual impact tool. 4 was a breaker bar.

It definitely took three of the most tedious operations of reloading and made it into one enjoyable operation.

I also discovered another interesting fact that saved me over a hundred bucks...The Redding Instant Indicator I had for my 6.5 BR works for my Creedmoor as well. The indicator I have was actually for a 6mm BR, but I just had to swap out the bushing for the size that would sit at the ogive for a 6.5 bullet. I thought I was going to have to get another one for the Creedmoor since it's a longer case, but I found if I don't screw it down that far, it has plenty of travel to read case length and seating depth. Thank gawd the one for 6.5 CM was on back order or I might have spent a bunch of money I didn't have to.

I bought a hundred pieces of Starline brass and I'm finding that I'm fairly pleased with it. The wall thickness at the case mouth is within a .001". I'm debating whether or not to neck turn it after it's been fire formed to my chamber and has grown a little. I probably will just to remove that variable, although I did have to order a new neck sizing bushing. The old chamber was a tight-neck chamber so neck turning wasn't optional and I discovered the closest bushing I had would have given me .005" of neck tension, which was way too much...but will be perfect after I neck turn the cases. For now, I had to get one that will give me .002" of neck tension. I would have preferred .003", but nobody had that size in stock. .002" is good though. At any rate, I have 20 rounds of factory ammo to take to the range and sight in the scope with while I wait for the bushing. Can't wait to see how it shoots. Hopefully it doesn't kick the crap out of me. I'm so used to having small little cases with little powder charges and in the case of the .223, light bullets, I actually feel like I have a real rifle again instead of a pea shooter.

It just keeps getting better. I discovered I can set my case trimmer up to trim the case to "X" length without ever having to put a case in it...well, almost.

Now that I had it set up to trim to a known length with my Creedmoor brass, I was able to measure this gap...
    Case Trimmer.jpg

And from there I can extrapolate the space between the case head and the cutter when the shaft is on the stops. For example, the other day I trimmed my Creedmoor brass to 1.909". I was able to measure the gap with the shell holder fully retracted and came up with a measurement of .734" Once my brass grows a bit by being fire formed, I want to keep it trimmed to about 1.915", about .005" shorter than the trim-to-length. So that means to get 1.915, I just need to add .004" to .734" plus .003-.004 more to account for variations in the case rims/heads in different brands of brass or after changing the setup for a different case and then just dial it in with the micrometer adjustment ring until it's bang on.

Using the Creedmoor numbers, I was also able to calculate the size gap I needed to hit 1.745" for my .223 brass as well. So now I can just set the trimmer up by that gap with a little padding to dial it in to just right on the first case with one adjustment (hopefully). I tried it and hit my number on the first try

The '05 some of the OG Florida members knew is dead. She was totaled 2 years back after being rear ended by an FRS doing 120mph.

Been in a 2011 Sport that has a space lift and 285/70 Nitto Terra Grapplers.

I've moved up a lot with Lowe's, and the mod bud has bitten me.
