I just checked my RMR with a strip of electrical tape covering the fiber optic. The tritium is still good enough for low light (I keep the FO partially covered with tape anyway because it blooms like a MF'r in bright sunlight). I bought it back in 2010, so 10 years old and still glowing.

The half life of tritium is 12.5 years. So, 12.5 years after it's manufacturing date it'll be half as bright as it was before.

I got my 96 from a coworker that bought it in 2001. 19 years later they are deader than dammit.

That's fine with me. In low light, the fiber optic will still be "assisting" the tritium. In complete blackout? Tritium would be the least of my worries.

I think this is the way to go.

I've been looking at that one a little. I prefer to have an optic directly mounted to the slide instead of a picatinny. Right now I'm limited by the footprints that can be milled into the slide. It does look like the 507C fits an RMR footprint, so if it sits low enough to clear suppressor height sights it could be a viable alternative. Of course, I'd have to make sure it can survive on a pistol slide where the RMR has a proven track record. My RMR has survived multiple classes and thousand of rounds with zero issues.

Comes with a picatinny mount capable of mounting to the slide I believe

It looks like the sight can be removed from the picatinny and mounted straight to the slide.

In the mean time, I can live with changing the battery every time I rotate mags. It's not like I go that many places.

I'm going to get an RMR for my 96. I'm also going to do some custom gunsmithing on the forward frame so I can put a pic rail on it to mount a Streamlight TLR-1s on it and the will be my bedside weapon. Assuming it shoots worth a shit. If not, I'm going to have to either trade it for a full frame Sig, or source a new (hopefully stainless) barrel for it. That could be a problem since not even Beretta makes barrels for it anymore.

The PX4 will be my carry weapon.

Thats what I meant you just have to buy the plate milled to holosun. They are great sights long battery life and the solar panel is a nice touch

Any of you guys practice your draw and dry fire in front of a mirror? I figure I'm going to do so 100x a day until I get my sight picture perfect. Don't know anywhere around here that would let you draw and fire a live round, CCWL or not.

Edit: That guy in the mirror is a dead mudder trucker though.

I do, just not as often as I should. Any time I take a class I'm one of the fastest students, so I'm not too concerned. I've been carrying the same way (appendix) for a little over 20 years, so it's really a reflex at this point. When I took my first point shooting class, we would rock the pistol back as soon as it came out of the holster and start firing as we brought the pistol to eye level. Nine times out of ten, by the time I have sight alignment on target it's time to reload. With enough practice (and if you do it right), you end up with a string of bullet holes from bellybutton to forehead.

I got one of the laser pointer rounds in a kit that has a phone tripod, targets, and such that I use in my EDC regularly. I do not recall the brand, am at the office now, but I think it is "Laser hit" or something like that. There are several out there and the one I picked up is available in several calibers, and seemed to be the best as far as reviews that I saw indicated. It allows use of almost any target with dry fire practice from holster or any situation you like. The laser round also has worked well with any dry fire app I have tried to date.

I use it far less than I probably should, but I can also say using several different apps to record hits and ratios...my time to fire, groupings, and multiple target accuracy has definitely improved.

Pulled up to the local FD because one of the guys had a real nice 3rd gen sport. Asked if my son could check out the fire trucks and they said absolutely! Son had a blast and even though he's a little shy he hasn't stopped talking about it. Thanks Springfield FD!
