went to advance autoparts on my way to work this morning to use their code reader.

    it pulled three codes
1)P0430: Catalyst system below threshold, bank 2
2)P0420: Catalyst system below threshold, bank 1
3)P0420: Catalyst system efficiency below threshold, bank 1

so the potential issues that i could come up with are:
    1) O2 sensor is bad
    2) Fuel system needs a cleaning (opinion of the chick working at advance)
    3) Got a band tank of fuel (coincidentally, this is my first tank of 89 octane in about a year, and these come up)
4)K&N filter oil gummed up my mass airflow sensor, causing my mixture to run rich, causing the inefficiency reading from the O2 sensor.
    5) the catalytic converter is actually dead.

so what do you guys think?

my first step will be clean the MAF sensor. even though it's probably the least likely issue, i have MAF cleaner, and it's an 2 minute job.

tempted to just cut the cats out, buy a set of O2 simulators from URD and replace them with pipe. maybe get some mileage back. it's be nice to see 18mpg again

Edit: something to note, my mileage hasn't changed any that i can tell over the last few tanks.....

I'd say MAF could be your culprit, I highly doubt your cat's are dead

high-clearance for the rear? either way, you can't go wrong, jason's rear bumper is solid. gave me some solid tugs with the tow strap to help get me up a pretty rough hill while i was pulling my trailer.

i sure hope it's that simple, however, the reason i don't think it's the issue is becasue i feel like i'd experience a mileage drop if it wasn't functioning propperly. also, isn't the MAF run through the OBDII system? if so, you'd think the code would have been for that instead.

Not high clearance rear, but I want some kind of protection. There was a guy with a thread a little while ago who got a sick rear bumper with grey and black powder coating and he has a swing out and side protection that was sick. I don't want to cut the bedsides till I pay it off (or I'm comfortable).

How many miles do you have on your truck? At 30k they are supposed to clean the fuel injection system.

I like the powder coating too but not going for that if thats the question. I think I'll get it "bed-lined" I just need to see it in person first. Idk how big of a pita it is. If I dont like it I'll rattle can it

I just dont like the plate bumper look, tube looks so much sicker. I really like the mix of both tho some plate some tube. Saw a frontier yesterday with a really sick tube bumper.... he cause me staring :p
