Been having an issue the last two days with my truck. Yesterday I went to a Kangaroo to get a drink, came out and the truck wouldn't start. The first time I tried to start it I tried turning over then died. Hooked it up to my jump starter for a min or so and then it started. Drove 5 mins down the road, got a drink (left the Kangaroo because of lines and screaming children) came out and the same damn thing. Took longer on the charger to jump than before. Drove another 30 mins, went home a few hours later and all was well.

Went to get my lighter out of my truck, used the key fob all was well. decided to get another ciggarette out and noticed my fob wasn't working. Got in my truck and once more, no electricity at all. Had it on the jump starter for a minute or two before it would finally crank.

It's not losing my stereo presets, but the clock resets each time. My battery is only a year or so old, give or take a few months. Should be fine.

Freaking out because I rely on my vehicle. I'm thinking its the battery or the alternator. I checked and tightened the connections on the battery just to be certain. I've gotta be at work at 8am which is unusually early for me, now I'm paranoid. Dammit.

Yeah figures haha. Well that doesn't sound too bad. I got to fish a little bit then had to go to Orlando with the family. Made a trip to bass pro shops while I was down there though so that was worth it

I actually haven't watched much of it this year. Somehow slipped by. That'd be fun until the truck was ruined haha

No. Barely have basic tools these days, most of my tools have been stolen over the last year or so

I have a friend who more than likely has one, might have to head over there. Anything specific I should check? Or any other ideas as to whats wrong/a fix?

I need a damn credit card. I make just under $500 a month. Any sort of mechanical error with my vehicle would absolutely cripple me.

if you can get a volt meter from someone, obviously check the battery first. most likely not that since it's only a year old. it'll probably be low though since something is draining it or it's not getting a charge.

if you can get it started, check the voltage. if it's below 12.5-13 volts, it's your altornator. something you want to take care of quick too, because a bad altornator can lead to a battery that won't hold a charge, even on a new one.

The first time it happened, just barely did it click. The other two times, nothing at all. No clicking, nothing electronic works, no keyless entry. Turning the key did absolutely zero.

Over the last month or so I've thought that my headlights appeared to be a tiny bit dimmer, but I figured that could also be because I have the original bulbs and just under 82K on my truck.

Just a thought, my CB radio is wired directly to the battery on my truck. I almost always have it off, but could that be draining my battery?

When I leave my truck I always turn off the headlights/stereo/ac and whatnot to reduce the amount of power needed to start up.

Honestly it could be the battery, because the clicking comes from the starter solenoid because there is insufficient cold cranking amps to turn the motor over. The battery could have a bad cell which could cause this. But i would also check your alternator because it may not be charging the battery fully. Autozone should be able to do a load test on your alternator it see if it is working properly

that would not cause the battery to drain (mine is done in the same fashion)

i'd gues altornator if your lights are dimming. when running, the altornator should support the needs of the vehicle. if the alornator cannot put out the amperage to supply everything, you'll start drawing the difference from the battery. if it gets bad enough, your battery will actually die as the vehicle is running.

i'd head to autozone and have them test your battery first, simply because it's easier to take out of the truck than the altornator. if the battery checks out, try the altornator.

and a bad alternator will greatly decrease the life of your battery
