I know we talked about cross members a while ago and jason posted some pics (maybe even colin too) about how you guys routed the exhaust but what about the cross member itself? Did you leave it off or flip it or what? Ordering a aero turbine 2525xl and want to do the exhaust for the last time. So what did you guys do?

you talking about the frame crossmember, or the exhaust crossover?

jason and i have both done it. this is what mine looks like (heat wrap has since been torn off on rocks). jason's is essentially the same, but he still has the heat wrap i believe.

looking back, i got lucky.... when i got my skid plates, the new crossover happened to be routed in a way that the crossmember built into the transfer case skid cleared it. could have been a pain if they tried to ocupy the same space

mhmm this has me thinking. Do you gain any more clearance or is that bracket still hanging below. Wish I had a side shot of my truck handy will get one when I get off work. I'm just trying to get the bottom as flat as possible. And Colin have you ever thought about running a fjc transfer case? I see guys doing it but is it really stronger? Or are they doing it to get away from the electric 4wd?

if you're talking about the frame cross member, then no, it's in the same place. the exhaust, however, is up much higher. it used to hand down lower than the crossmember, but is now tucked up inside the frame of thetruck. my underside is completely flat, but that is due to having skid plates from bumber to bumber, it's a heavy way to flatten out the uderside, but it deffinately works.

here's the only side shot i could find that sort of shows the lack of low hanging exhaust. it used to hang lower than the crossmember 2/3 of the way up the front door. you can't do anything about the crossmember though since it supports the ass end of the transmission.

i haven't really looked into the FJ case thing. I love our crawl gear, and actually like the electronic 4x4 shifter. sure you're kindof in a spot if the motor goes out, but if you really need it, you can just get under there, pop the motor off and shift it in and out of 4x4 with a screwdriver. we had to do that to the e-locker on a first gen this summer at rausch creek when his motor failed. quick and easy.

lots of guys also do the fj case and a second reduction box for a lower gear for crawling, but with an automatic tranny, i've never been in a spot where i've needed it. might considder it if i were on the rocks every weekend, but that would be more to save the torque converter.

there's nothing yet really, just a picture of his truck on jack stands with no wheels on.

he said that the welds that hold the traction bar heim joints to the axle keep breaking.

couple pictures in his build thread, as well as a link to the domello forum

no problem. so whatcha got in the works?

For the exhaust I'm getting a aero turbine 2525xl and I am going to the exhaust shop to see what it will cost to reroute the whole exhaust. If its cheaper to order that pipe bomb set up I'll do that. I'm going to be ordering some 265/75/r16 mtr's or m/t's looking for a good m/t. But this friday I am ordering a front bumper stock color matched cause mine is pitted from previous owner, and after that I may order a color matched grille. I still need to do tint and a short throw shifter. I think I'm keeping the truck.

glad to hear you are able to keep it!

if the pipe bomb thing is a cat back, i'd assume having them reroute it like mine and jason's with some 2.5'' aluminized tubing would be cheaper.....but who knows.

what are you thinking for the exit? gonna dump it?
