    F7884AC1-C7A7-460D-A5EA-2DEAE1FE5BB8.jpg Hi,
I have a 2011 Prerunner longbed that I’ve had since new. I took the truck into an Indy shop to do brakes and the owner said the frame looks bad regarding rust. I pulled out my letter and FL is not listed as an affected state. I’m surrounded by saltwater literally ocean, saltwater canal, and intercoastal water way.

So has anyone in the state had luck getting the inspections and any rust mitigation/replacements?

Also, where are the inspection locations? I don’t think the skid plate area is one of them but here’s an idea of how rusty it is.

Looks worst than mine and I live in the rust belt. Look at the inside, (engine side), areas near the cats just behind the front wheels and you may want to check the area where the rear springs mount.

Did the truck spend its entire life in FL? Looks more like a truck from PA or OH.

Yes, entire life in FL. Quality of the steel aside, environmental history is pretty mild: I don’t off road (trucks dirty in the pick as I just took a bed load of palm fronds to the dump on a rainy day), seen snow maybe once or twice, boat doesn’t get trailered so I’m not at the boat ramp all the time…heck this Florida, the truck doesn’t even know what a hill is ha!

I’ll snap some pics of the inspection points once I find out where they are. Gonna call the dealer, just hope I don’t get a blank stare. Truck is at 220k n I’m pretty sure has an easy 100k more in it.

Is it my eyes or does that front crossmember look like swiss cheese?

I live in Florida and I did get the frame rust letter but I didnt take it in since there was no real rust or pitting.

of course years later its starting to get worse, but no rust through

Holy moly. Can't hurt to ask! I'm in Florida and live on the water and my vehicles don't get that bad.

Truck looks neglected throughout its ownership.

    Rust doesn't happen overnight.

Hopefully others can help regarding a frame rust claim; can't recall how far back on model years they'd cover but I will say that in order to be covered, there must've been some rust proofing done at some point (Toyota offered it at the dealership as part of this recall).

Any documentation to prove you've done so as preventative?

After taking a second look at the picture, it appears that you may have a very slight leak somewhere.

I'd wager that's been driven on beaches or salt water flooded streets.

I've lived in a peninsular county surrounded by saltwater for decades, and none of my vehicles ever had anything like that.

21k posts and a gum shoe detective on web forums...I bet your life of the party hahah!

Just because ‘you never saw something’ doesn’t mean it does exist…..a Toyota with rust!?!? Inconceivable.

Thanks, for not answering the question that was t even asked.

Good luck with your rusty neglected truck. You’re beyond the extended replacement period so you’d have to pay for repairs now out of pocket.
