So small back story, I've been searching and lurking this forum for months now and have probably listened to every single Tacoma on YouTube. After narrowing down my search to either a Flowmaster 44 or a Black Widow race venom, I decided to get a Flowmaster 44 muffler put on my truck (just a muffler swap with stock piping.)

My initial thoughts of the Flowmaster 44 is I like it. Going into it, I knew there was only so much that you can do to a V6 and I feel like it checks those boxes. When you crank it and let it reach a warm idle, it has a nice little rumble to it. When I step on the gas, I can hear it but honestly, I'm not sure why some say it drones. You can hear it but I can still comfortably listen to my radio, have normal conversations, and use my Bluetooth. At highway speeds, I also don't have any drone issues. Itll come to life if you pass someone but just cruising at 70 MPH on the highway, its actually rather quiet. It does have that classic v6 sound in the upper rpms under hard acceleration but again, I went into this expecting that.

The thing that I don't like about the 44 is I actually expected it to be louder in person. It has a nice growl at cold start up and when you step on the gas, but just cruising, its nowhere near as loud as I thought it'd be. To be fair, my other vehicle is a scatpack charger that is essentially straight piped and the drone in that will ring your ears on long drives.

I can tell the black widow is louder in videos but for those who have heard both, how much louder? Is it worth paying to switch? Interior and exterior tone comparison?

I'd like to hear some opinions for what its worth as I like the 44 (it sounds better in person than it does in the youtube videos) but now I'm super curious if I should have went with the black widow instead? Ive heard others in person but these are the two I like best. The truck is more for show than offroading and toyed with idea of duals but not comfortable running a pipe on the drivers' side due to the brake lines.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

I think the general opinion here is to stick with the stock exhaust. At the end of the day it's still just a six. It's kind of the equivalent to a kid using a baseball card in the spokes of a bicycle tire to make a different sound. To each his own and good luck with it!
