my 04 taco has a fluctuating idle problem with the a/c on while sitting at a stop light. I've tryed seafoam and it doesn't help any suggestions.

Sounds like the maf sensor needs cleaned.......or the iac valve on bottom on throttle body needs cleaned.

There is an idle compensator when AC is on to handle load but it should be a "normal" idle then when compressor kikks on, the idle should only slightly "rise".. but be steady. If you have an "erratic" idle, I suspect it's what Will said-the MAF sensor needs a good dose of cleaner.

The AC normally cycles, when it does this the rpm will change during this transition, did this just start or??

It should cycle once every 10-30 seconds on average.

If it starts fine in the morning and doesnt have this issue with AC off, it is likely normal if it always did this.

It hasn't always did this but it's gotten a little worsethe past few weeks only when the ac is on it jumps from 500 to 1100 at a stop light with ac on in the process of it ldling up and down i can turn the ac off and it idles fine.

oh shit i know what it is! its doing it on my car i just dont want to get it fixed

okay when you turn on your ac theres this thing thats supposed to kick up your idle. its called.... idle step up solenoid i think. so when your stopped the idle goes really low and fluctuates. i think its like a 40-50 dollar part

it is a normal function as described-BUT it is supposed to keep your idle constant as compressor kikks on not raise it higher. I think you should go get the solenoid replaced caise that's a pretty steep jump in idle.

What harm would it cause letting the idle fluctuate? Could it harm something?

Mine does the same thing after it warms up. With the AC on or off at a stop while in gear it is at a low 500-550 rpms. When I first start off before it is warm it is around 700 rpms.

I'm told that its the IAC valve and it controls all aspects of the idle, if so i'll just buy one, if not I rather not spend 280 for a whim

ok the idle move high and low were not talking about a little jump up or down its a spike, i took the throttle body off and cleaned it but couldn't get the 4 screws out of the IAC valve so I couldn't clean everything, I did order the screws from the dealer. So when they show up i'll cut the damn things off and do one more cleaning.

I just don't need to slap some kid @ Mc ie d's b/c he thinks I revving up my truck at him.

i dont remember off the top of my head on the bolt size. did mine about a year ago.

You might try just getting one off and taking it to ace that way.
