I have the V6 Auto with 1,100mi and for the first time just this morning it was idling in park and heard the motor rev up & down. Sat in the drivers seat and watched the rpm's go back & forth from 600-900 constantly and has done so twice since this morning.

    Anyone else...?

Do you need to know, or care?
Was the engine hot or cold, was air conditioning on, defroster, were you using any accessories?

Really need to know more, but it can happen due to strain on the alternator or on the engine.

LOL, just might be broken or on the verge... Nothing on at all, it was a rare 65 degrees in Pgh today, no heat, no air, no lights, nada. Had it a month now and this is the first sign of any thing odd.

ECU is...? I'm a garage door guy not any kind of auto tech in my blood or brain.

I had it out for a couple hours today and just checked it again now and the same thing is still going on.

Back to the dealer I guess.

The ECU is the brains of the vehicle. It controls the engine, transmission and computers, if I'm not mistaken. Which might be the cause of your engine revving at different times even though everything is off.

With the A/C on that's actually normal.

Josh which service advisor did you recommend working with at Earnhardt? My truck is due for the 5k and I want them to grease zerks and check Trans fluid.

I need to have the Auto Trans fluid checked. Thought you said they didn't give that service request the time of day at Riverview.

Mine does this as well, it isn't normal. I took it in and they diagnosed as the ECU which they re-flashed but it's still happening intermittently. Going to take it back in eventually (not that big of a deal at the moment).

Its normal. Idle will change depending on if you are in gear or P/N to warm coolant faster. It will also bump up and down as AC compressor cycles.

Oh for F**ks sake. I called this morning and spoke with Michelle in the service dept at Earnhardt and I'm already getting the run around. Told her my truck is due for 5k service and I felt like the transmission fluid might need checking due to some strange shifting going on. She tells me I need to go through the original dealer that I bought it from to get a work order cut from the salesman to the service dept. I said "what if I bought the truck out of state" she says "I'm not sure about that I was just told that's how we have to do it".... I ask to speak to a manager and they put me on hold for 5 minutes. I hung up and called Chuck's number direct, left him a voicemail asking him if I can get my 5k service set up with him sometime this week. Told him Josh recommended him for service on his 2016 Tacoma so we will see if he gets back to me.

Well, a lot of people might forget that the 2016 Tacoma does run a "self-cleaning" cycle during idle, whether you're at a stoplight or anywhere.

Called Riverview Toyota Service Department and the lady tells me I can take my truck to any Toyota Service Department to get it serviced said that the other girl doesn't know what she's talking about.

I just took possession of mine last week and I noticed this at a parked idle as well, I assume that it is just normal "cycling" through different modes, checks, etc. Seemed that parked, with fan/heat running slightly the needle would bump around between about 800-1100 rpm.
