Hey all, my 2022 Tacoma has 3,000 miles on it currently. I want to get the initial wear/shavings out of the truck as soon as possible/necessary. It's my daily driver. Highway/City driving only. Not concerned with money.

I was planning on doing the following at 5,000 miles, just to be extremely proactive:
    • Front Differential Fluid Change
    • Rear Differential Fluid Change
    • Transfer Case Fluid Change
    • Transmission Fluid Change
    • Engine Oil Change
Would there be any possible negative outcomes to doing any of these too soon?

    Thanks all!
Glad to be part of the forum.

There may or may not be a benefit to an oil change at 5k. The others are probably a waste of time and money.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new truck! Since you are new I will refrain from the obligatory flaming for starting oil change thread # 12,426. :)

Do hide your wallet though. You will find things here you never knew existed and now you can't live without :)

Haha I do apologize for the oil change question. I just wanted to know if I was crazy or not for wanting to do all those services at 5k miles. I will be doing them myself, I should note. So I won't be paying for labor.

    Noted on the wallet hiding.

    Waste of cash.

Won't even see anything on the diff magnets worth while.

Toyotas have invincible drivetrains, they don't fail. When they do its a freak incident.

Change them every 50,000 miles sure. But not now.

Spend the money on mods for now.

No worries, you didn't know :) Problem with this question is there are about as many different opinions as there are members here. Try doing a search of the 3rd gen forum for "oil change" and get comfortable. You will have a lot of reading to do!

I consider losing a bunch of money on fluids a negative outcome. These components that may have a little bit of metal shavings also have a magnet on the drain plug to collect those shavings to keep them from circulating. I do agree with changing the oil at 5K because 5K is Toyotas “severe use” recommendation, and I consider any break in severe use. But the other fluids are designed to go several multiples of 5K more, even on the break in cycle. You gotta realize the vast majority of people don’t even change the original fluid in their diffs or trannies within the first 100K miles/10 years or more, and most of their vehicles (especially Toyotas) still routinely make it to 200-300K+. If anything, I’d save your money and wait for the severe intervals, which is 15K on the diffs, 30K on the t-case, and 60K on the trans. That’s still far more than 99.9% of people do.

Change the oil as often as you like to feel comfortable and secure. The other fluids will last a long time.

It might make sense to check your fluid levels. My transmission came 1 quart low from the factory and both diffs needed a top off.

Personally I would follow the owner’s manual. My own personal preference is to assume that I operate my truck under harsh conditions so fluids get changed probably sooner than needed.

If you do a transmission fluid change a simple drain and refill only replaces about 30% of the total fluid.

As far as a waste of money goes, if you enjoy doing your own work and don’t look at this as a chore, doing this isn’t a bad way to spend the day.

Why wait all the way until 5000 miles when you could do it at 3000 miles? It seems to me you should have done it immediately after driving it home from the dealer.

It’s all right in the owners manual. Follow the maintenance schedule and be done. You can’t out engineer the engineers , they put in black and white what’s needed make the truck go 250k plus.
