Definitely plan on doing it annually. I’ll also be using FF on my other power equipment like my lawn tractor since I’ll be using it to plow the driveway

    yep..
Seems worth it to buy a gallon with the spray gun and attachments, and a cheap compressor if you don't have one. I've already spent 100$ on cans this year  I'll be getting the kit next year.

Or you can find someone to spray it on for you cheap. I already did ten trucks in one afternoon a month ago, lining up another group this Sunday.

Give your truck a decent wash and dry before fall application then leave it alone until the state is done throwing down salt. Rinse and repeat in the spring. I have almost 100k miles on my 2014 and it's 99% spotless. I have sprayed a bunch of CT and mass trucks this year for $40 each. I would use the cans for light touch-up only...more cost effective to get the underbody done with a commercial sprayer gun

If the weather is above 45 I can still do it

That's pretty much it. I told all the guys that I sprayed not to pressure wash, undercarriage wash or anything of the sort until next spring. I hadn't thought of reapplying in the springtime though, Once per year in the fall has been good for me so far.

    Road trip. :)

Seriously though, that's a hell of a drive. My girlfriend used to live in Ithaca and before she moved out here one of us was driving back and forth every other weekend. If you've got a good group of local guys out there it could be worth pitching in, getting a spray kit and a 5 gallon pail.

Sounds like that'll be worth a shot anyway. It will however be hard to stop myself from spraying the underside with a garden hose after a salt bath.

    Thanks for the insight.

Just coated my 04 tonight for the upcoming winter. I got a new frame last winter and had the dealership spray 4 cans on before it even left their shop.

This stuff truly is amazing. I'm sold....

Hmm. Fluid film does seem to be the way to go. I used about 4 cans to spray into all of the drain holes in the frame as well as the inside of the c-section part of the frame. It seems like the stuff really holds up well in all small spaces, but it does not seem to stick to the exposed parts of the frame rails - even after a rainstorm it'll wash off. The idea of not washing all winter and letting that toxic blue/white concoction just sit on my truck for 6 months kinda scares me; I think it'll be hard for me to resist at least hitting the self-service bay and hosing the undercarriage with low pressure. Is there anything y'all are doing other than a thorough cleaning before applying the stuff?

Used ff for the last couple of years in TN. They brine if freezing temps are forecast here. I'm like th OP, in fall I pressure wash the undercarriage then put about 3-5 cans on, leave it on all winter without washing. Results are amazing, the way it seems to suspend and trap everything.

So I just moved from Florida to Vermont with my 02 and I'm nervous about my frame. Sucks that I have to expose my perfectly good frame to New England conditions but that's life I guess. I'm thinking about fluid filming as I've heard about it up here. Seems to be a good idea. We have had one day of snow and salt application so I will have to pressure clean the frame real well... Wish I had done this a month ago but didn't think much of it till it snowed last week.

Spent a lot of time thinking about rinsing salt off after fluid film. Here is my conclusion. You can hose off large accumulation of mud/salt a few time during the winter, but no hot water or high pressure. I have found that the FF stays on enough doing that. Then full blown pressure wash in spring. What I really wanted to say in my previous post is that after 3 years of using FF, I think it can prevent the frame from rusting from the inside out which was my concern. In looking at the frame and the FF performance, I think the frames are just thin and that is why they rust out so easily, not so much form the metalurgical compound of the steel being suseptable. In any case I am gonna keep putting on FF each fall.

I live on the east coast of Canada, probably the worst weather for rust. My truck has been under coated every year from new with f.f. or oil before the rust ever started. I do not rise it all winter and do not pressure wash in spring or summer, I want it well coated , protected all year and reapply every fall over last years undercoating. No need to wash it off every year. My frame is still factory black shiny paint without rust if you wipe the undercoating away. I think the more build up of undercoating the better. Nobody I know washes the undercoating away every spring around here.
